Overall

Season 9 gave me some of the biggest laughs in the entire Dragon Ball Z series. There were several moments that are of lasting chuckles. The Porta Potty incident and having the entire Earth chant Satan, Satan, Satan several times gives real insight into the warped sense of humor the creators had. There was also the ever-present moral fiber of Goku and the blatant self-centered persona of Vegita. The natural dichotomy of humanity is explored though these two characters, and is given to us in a way that justifies both of these two men existence. I realize that Dragon Ball Z is believed to be a series geared toward the pre-teen and early teen age group, but I find a great deal of depth to the characters, of course it was between the fight scenes. But, even during many of the fights there are periods of reflection that open the story to a deeper discussion.

It has been a while since I spent some time with the Dragon Ball Z gang, and am very glad I got to revisit the classic show. Season 9 proves why this series has such a strong following and devoted fan base. I know all of the Dragon Ball fans will go out and get this release, but for anyone who might want to get a taste of Dragon Ball this release will leave you with a wanting for more, and also, many questions.

There were also extras in this Box Set. They were Textless Songs and Trailers. The coolest addition to the set was the marathon setting. I allows you to run through the disc without the breaks in the episodes. I found this great, because after a few episodes you really don't want to sit through the transitions between episodes. The other extra that I enjoyed was the Season 9 handbook. I was standard stuff, like character outlines and episode summaries, but it was fun to spend a little time going over the characters and bio information.

ComicsOnline gives Dragon Ball Z, season 9, 4.5 out of 5 Super Ghost Kamikaze Attacks.
