Blu-ray Review: Ghostbusters

"Don't cross the streams."

Who ya gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS! Who could have predicted that 25 years later, Ghostbusters would still be a household name? To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of this beloved, Academy Award Nominated movie, Sony has released the original Ghostbusters film on Blu-ray!

When three paranormal scientists are cutoff from University funding, they decide to go out into the private sector and start their own business. They purchased an old firehouse and converted it into their headquarters and added a fourth member to the team. Together, these men would save humanity from forces they don't quite understand. Armed with Proton-Packs, Traps, PKE meters, and the Ecto-1, this group would go down in history as The Ghostbusters! When Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) has an encounter with a creature calling out the name "Zuul" in her apartment, she turns to the newly established Ghostbusters for help. Peter offers to take Ms. Bennett back to her apartment and "check her out" while the rest of the gang does research into the being known as "Gozer". Things start getting more and more abnormal and Dana and her next-door neighbor Louis Telly (Rick Moranis) have their bodies possessed by mystical forces known as the Gatekeeper and the Keymaster. Now, the Ghostbusters must act quickly to stop Gozer from crossing over into our world and ushering a new dark age for mankind. Can they save the day in time? And what will happen to Dana and Louis if they can stop Gozer?

"That's a big Twinky."

This film featured the amazing cast of Bill Murray (Peter), Dan Aykroyd (Ray), Harold Ramis (Egon), Ernie Hudson (Winston), Rick Moranis (Louis), and Sigourney Weaver (Dana). Everyone knows the story of the Ghostbusters whether they grew up watching the movie, the second movie, or one of the several cartoons, (I grew up watching the adventures of the Real Ghostbusters everyday on the USA Cartoon Express). The theme song is instantly recognizable. Recently there have been several new developments in the world of the Ghostbusters. Not only will they be releasing a brand new video game featuring ALL of the original cast, but there have been comments made that a third film is in the works and that it will feature the original cast as well as new players. The new video game is set several years after the second movie and features the continuing adventures of our heroes in the early 90s!

"SHHHHH!"

Blu-ray Exclusive Special Features
-Slimer Mode: Picture-in-Picture and Pop-up Triva Track- This feature has new interviews with cast and crew and offers great new commentary on the film.

-Ecto-1: Resurrecting the Classic Car- Think of this featurette as "Pimp my Ecto-1". With the new video game coming out, the marketing team wanted to have the original car restored to its former glory. Well that might be easier said than done…because the car is in really bad shape. Watch as the Cinema Motor Services division restores the car! This is an impressive feature and makes the purchase of the Blu-ray well worth it.

-Ghostbusters Garage: Ecto-1 Photo Gallery

-Making of Ghostbusters the Video Game

-1080p Video

-True HD Dolby 5.1 Sound.

Overall

This Blu-ray release couldn't possibly be any better than it is. They have really outdone themselves to include new features and made this set a must have for fans. Even if you already own Ghostbusters on DVD you need to go buy this release because this is Ghostbusters as you have never seen it before! This is a perfect addition to your Blu-ray collection and would make a great Father's day gift! ComicsOnline gives Ghostbusters 5 out ot 5 Giant Stay Puft Marshmellow Men.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
