Manga Review: SGT Frog, Volume 18

I can not say I have no regret… But I did my best… The best I know how… I believed…”

Sergeant  Keroro and his platoon are continuing their quest to one day maybe take over Pekopon.  As normal, the ARMPIT Platoon will ether get distracted by Gundams and other random adventures or they fail horribly at their invasion attempts. Not all of the stories in this manga are about the ARMPIT Platoon’s current failures.  We also learn about Keroro's first day on the job of invading Pekopon. Keroro rushes away from home, late for the departure from his planet, his parents (who Keroro lives with) stand at the door wishing him luck. Of course, luck was something Keroro didn’t need, all he needed was his incompetence and Kululu’s flying bathroom/giant soda can of doom. The next pre-story is Tamama’s and Momaka’s first meeting. While Tamama is guarding the ARMPIT space ship, he is attacked by a space dog. During the space dog's  and Tamama’s fight, they end up in the middle of Momaka’s birthday party. With the combination of Momaka’s evil and Tamama’s lasers, the space dog was defeated and something that might resemble a friendship formed.

Hightlights

As normal the ARMPIT Platoon has a watery adventure, but instead of the beach they have it in there “Aquatic Training Center”. Unfortunately for the platoon Giroro was in charge of the training, so some of the exercises where “Wave Conquering Training!!!”,“Torpedo Dodging Mobility Training!!!”, and “Hand-To-Hand Combat Training!!!”  (fighting fresh water Great Wight Sharks). After the pummeling commenced it was sadly interrupted by Natsumi and Koyuki. The exercises were quickly reduced to jet skiing, surfing and frolicking with the marine life. While the girls were having fun, the platoon was to battered and bruised to be aware of the horrible fate about to unfold. Suddenly, from the watery abyss, Keroro, Tamama, and Kululu  get dragged down to the bottom. When the three frogs arose from the dark abyss, they were like zombies. With this problem, Koyuki dived down to the bottom of the pool to investigate. There Koyuki found one of the one of the most horrible sea creatures, A SEA PIG!!! (Which is a real creature.)

Overall

This is everything I’ve come to know and love about SGT Frog. Although my knowledge of the series is from that anime, the manga is just as good. One of the main differences between the two forms of media is that each story in the manga seem like they are shorter. In the anime, the the episodes tend to last for the full 24 minutes but in the manga each “episode” is only one chapter, which is read a lot faster than it is watched. The individual chapter stories is nice because it doesn't pressure you to keep reading to find out what happens. Another thing that in nice is the chapter tree in the beginning of the book, so, for people new to the series it tells how each chapter is related to Keroro. This manga fueled the flame of passion for SGT Frog and I hope that it never ends.
