Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters continues with “Rebellion” an action packed installment that continues the momentum of the first three episodes and brings the third season’s first story arch to an exciting climax.

Humanity is tired of having their capital cities held hostage by the fusion cannons on Megatron’s citadel, Darkmount, but they can’t do anything about it without risking the lives of millions of people. Cue Ultra Magnus and the Autobots, who must infiltrate the citadel and disable the cannons’ power source so that the US military can come in and take down the building for good. Meanwhile, Smokescreen is left with a dire choice: allow Optimus Prime to die, or risk exhausting the power of the Forge of Solus Prime and lose the chance to ever revive Cybertron.
The battle to take down Darkmount is the central focus of this episode, and it gives almost everybody a chance to shine: Wheeljack and Bulkhead get another chance to show just how tough they are as they take on an entire squadron of Decepticon jets, and Ultra Magnus has his moment of awesomeness as he single handedly tries to infiltrate the facility using his space ship and ends up in a hand to hand fight with Megatron. The Decepticons’ best combatant is Shockwave, who goes berserk after his Predacon is taken out of the battle and decides to deal with the Autobots themselves. In comparison, the battle is kind of weak for Bumblebee and Arcee, who get a few scenes but mostly play out their parts offscreen.The star of the episode, however, is Optimus Prime, who returns in a flashy new form to light the Autobots’ darkest hour. Plus, he has a jetpack. A jetpack! How awesome is that? (Spoiler: It is really awesome.) The coolest move of the episode has to go to Shockwave, as he calmly requests a ground bridge from Soundwave and strolls into the portal moments before his location is crushed by the collapsing Darkmount. So cool.
“Rebellion” is a lot of fun and an exciting way to wrap up the plot threads left hanging by the cliffhanger ending of season two, but it leaves a lot of questions as to where the series will go next. We’ve kind of returned to the status quo: Team Prime is reunited, the Decepticons have returned to roaming around in their starship, and the Predacon is (temporarily?) out of commission.
