Video Game Preview: Rebuild: Gangs of Deadsville

by Mike Favila, Editor

If you haven’t caught Rebuild on your mobile device, you’ve been missing out.  Northway Games have putting out fun new takes on the survival genre, and I’ve been addicted to their Rebuild series ever since a friend turned me on to it.

ComicsOnline.com got a chance to talk with Sarah Northway and get a quick look at the upcoming sequel Rebuild: Gangs of Deadsville.  It looks like it’s going to be a great time.  The graphics have been improved, the scope of the missions require more consideration and thought and overall, the world has been expanded. I played the beta through a few a few times.

Take a look:

The character designer in Rebuild: Gangs of Deadsville is a little bit more flexible now, and it looks like there will be a number of character attributes to choose from, especially the jobs setup, which has been drastically expanded.

Visually, I’m really liking the new art style of the game.  The other version had a grittier feel to it, which was easy to understand and play, but I do appreciate the change of pace.

Northway Games has expanded on the interface, allowing you to play turn by turn, or after a certain amount of time.  You can drag characters around to the various buildings and have them perform the various tasks, such as clearing zombies, or trying to convince new survivors to join the team.

Building materials are now needed in Rebuild: Gangs of Deadsville to reclaim facilities, which is a new wrinkle for those used to the previous Rebuild.  This definitely increased the difficulty factor for me, although most people probably aren’t phased with this new change.

I like the choice of the story book design when you come up to various decisions you have to make with a new survivor, or somebody that’s just passing through.

Overall, Rebuild: Gangs of Deadsville looks like it’s going to be a great release when the final build comes out next year.  The beta is available now on Steam Early Access.

You can purchase the game at rebuildgame.com and keep up with the release dates at Northway Games.
