Event News: International TableTop Day

International TableTop Day 2015

by Joe Iconic, Reporter

Columbia’s Firefly Toys & Games welcomed a large crowd to its celebration of International Table Top Day. I counted about 45 people playing board games, and even more waited with excitement at nearby tables for their turn to play. According to Robbie Wise, Firefly employee, “They played a ton of different games including Carcassonne, Agricola, Five Tribes, King of Tokyo, X-Wing Miniature Game, Imperial Assault, Settlers of Catan, Splendor, Red Dragon Inn and Ticket to Ride.”

Looney Labs, Alderac Entertainment Group, Steve Jackson Games, Calliope Games donated a tabletop game to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles for every event registered.

The store also held the South Carolina State Championship for Pokemon during International Table Top Day. Zander Modaress, Drew McGinniss and Grant Manley won their respective tournaments and will go on to compete in the 2015 Pokémon Trading Card Game and Video Game US National Championships in Indianapolis on July 3-5.

Boyan Radakovich, producer of the Table Top web series, founded International TableTop Day in 2012 as a way to promote and celebrate gaming hobbies.  The event has grown into an international phenomenon.  Last year, over 3,000 events took place in 80 countries on all seven continents, and this year’s event was predicted to be even bigger.

Thank you to Robbie Wise and Firefly Toys & Games for the pictures, and the good times!

Joe is a husband, #girldad, and Orphan of Apollo. He has drawn critters since riding the bus in 5th grade, and they have appeared on notes to loved ones, graffiti in a Latin classroom (sorry Rev. Dr Clark!), training slides for work, a newsletter in Alaska, and notes to his wife Tracy, who encouraged him to share them with the world. Contains pop culture references, stuff from the news, but mostly bad dad jokes.
