The Flash – Season 3: Interview with Keiynan Lonsdale (Wally West/Kid Flash)

The Flash

by Gema Luna (Assistant Editor) and Matt Sernaker (Managing Editor),

ComicsOnline is back with more interviews with the cast of The Flash. Keiynan Lonsdale (Wally West) is about to suit up as Kid Flash in the Season Three premiere of The Flash, and Lonsdale was kind enough to discuss his new suit, the “Flashpoint” universe, and the impending crossover event with us at San Diego Comic-Con 2016. Enjoy the interview below:

CO: What was it like putting on the suit for the first time?

KL: Incredible. It was such a crazy experience. The majority of the time I can’t see what it looks like since my face can’t move much in the costume. When I showed the cast the pictures, they got really excited, which got me really excited. I love it.

CO: When you signed on, did you know that becoming Kid Flash would happen this quickly?

KL: No. I knew that it would happen eventually. During the last season when Wally was hit by the particle accelerator, I wasn’t sure if that would kick start something straight away. I was definitely surprised when I read the script for “Flashpoint”.

CO: How comfortable is the suit? Is it easy to move around in?

KL: You can move…but you feel tightened up a bit. You can do pretty much any movement, but it’s just quite hot after awhile. I get these sweat marks after awhile because my face is kind of exposed. After I take the mask off I get these lines of sweat…but it’s fun!

CO: We’ve seen some beginning sparks between Wally and Jesse, do you know if that is something that the show is going to explore this season?

KL: I don’t know. I would imagine that if they get to connect again that they wouldn’t just forget about that. I’m only learning episode by episode…so we will have to wait and see.

CO: We know that there is going to be a big four-part crossover this season, do you hope that your character will be a part of that?

KL: I hope so. I have no idea. I’ve never done a crossover, so it would be cool to be involved in one of the bigger ones and interact with different people on big sets.

CO: Now that Wally is on a path to becoming a superhero, how does that change him as a person?

KL: It changes him completely. His main issue last year was that he was feeling that he wasn’t a very good person. He was losing his Mom, and having so many trust issues. Now he is in this place where he knows exactly who he is and helps people. He’s really content and very happy, but he’s maybe a bit too confident.

The Flash –  Season Three premieres Tuesday, October 4th on The CW.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
