The Flash – Season 3: Interview with Tom Felton (Julian Albert)

The Flash

by Gema Luna (Assistant Editor) and Matt Sernaker (Managing Editor),

The Flash speeds back into our lives this week, and ComicsOnline is back with more interviews with the cast! Next up is the latest addition to the cast, Tom Felton (The Harry Potter film series). Felton joins as Julian Albert, a CSI in the newly created “Flashpoint” universe. Felton spoke with us at San Diego Comic-Con 2016, and briefly discussed his dynamic with the cast, how he got the role, and his working relationship with Barry Allen in Season 3. Enjoy the interview below:

CO: How does it feel to be part of this whole universe?

TF: Overwhelming. I can’t contain my excitement. It is such a cool group of people. For lack of a better analogy, it feels like being back on Potter. I’m working with a really, really tight and talented crowd. It is a very nerve-racking thing walking on to someone else’s set. They’ve been together for nearly two years, and for me to “walk on” and jump into it…it’s not always that easy. They’ve made it incredibly welcoming and hospitable.

CO: What can you tell us about your character?

TF: Nothing at all (laughs). He’s a CSI investigator, a forensic expert, with similar skills to Barry. It gives them a different relationship to anyone else that he works with, because they are sort of treating toes in their field of expertise. That’s about it (smiles).

CO: Does that make the relationship contentious? Does it make them adversaries or friends?

TF: Well, we are only two episodes in, so I don’t know what’s to come. Because of this new world, Barry is not familiar with these new relationships, but I am. As a result, he’s not sure why we aren’t as friendly as we should be. They have a slightly “clashing heads” approach to work, mostly because my character seems keen to reveal the information before Barry.

CO: How did you get involved with the show?

TF: They called me, bluntly speaking. It was surprise to me. I had one phone call with one of the producers, and I was really a fan of the stuff that he was saying. They really haven’t revealed anything about the stuff that I’m going to be doing, but knowing the quality of the writers on the show, it was enough to get me excited.

The Flash returns on Tuesday, October 4th on The CW.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
