    Blu-ray Review: Batman VS Two-Face

    Holy sequels Batman! The Dynamic Duo returns to face evil in a new DC Animated Movie installment of the Batman ’66 universe: Batman VS Two-Face. Adam West (Batman), Burt Ward (Robin), and Julie Newmar (Catwoman) are back as their respective characters for this new adventure, which also introduces us to the ’66 version of Two-Face (played by William Shatner, Star Trek). How will Batman and Robin do against this dastardly new foe?
     
     
    The people of Gotham City will soon be able to sleep soundly at night, as Doctor Hugo Strange has created a device that will remove all of the evil from Batman’s Rogues Gallery…once and for all! Batman, Robin, and Harvey Dent arrive to witness the miracle machine, only to actually witness the birth of a new villain. The evil from the villains overwhelms the machine and the collection of concentrated evil explodes, hitting poor Harvey in the face. Harvey Dent is gone, now only Two-Face remains! (Cue the spinning Bat-symbol and theme music).
     
    Following a montage and homage to the introduction from Batman: The Movie, we move forward to a time where Harvey is given proper care and scares of Two-Face are “finally” removed (yes, we did just see his creation a few minutes before…but just go with it). Can Harvey Dent reclaim his life after being stuck as the villain for so long? While Dent recovers, Gotham experiences an unprecedented crime wave from King Tut and other villains.     After the success of Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, the DC Animated Team reunited our favorite ’66 heroes for another outing. While this story ended up being Adam West’s last adventure before his passing, it truly is the perfect final adventure for the “Bright Knight”. West, Ward, and Newmar continue to channel with characters into animated format with ease, and the creative team behind this story pulled out all of the stops to ensure that this seamlessly adds to the ’66 universe. In regards to the titular villain, Shatner provides an epic performance as both Dent and Two-Face. In typical Batman ’66 fashion, the creative team has made sure that this iteration of the character actually resembles Shatner in the 60s, which made this release even more enjoyable.

    Overall

    Batman VS Two-Face is a perfect throwback adventure. There are many reasons that fans will enjoy this outing and this release easily earns a place on the shelf next to the Batman ’66 Complete Series, Batman: The Movie, and Return of the Caped Crusaders. Make sure you add Batman VS Two-Face to your Blu-ray/Digital Copy collection.
