PS3 Game Review: X-Men: Destiny

Choose your powers. Choose your allies. Choose your destiny.

by Caleb Paullus, Video Game Editor

Choose your limited powers. Choose you allies which don’t really seem to make a difference. Sort of choose your destiny.

That’s really what the tagline should be for the game, but if they did that, it probably wouldn’t sell better than it is. Let me start off by saying I’m a BIG fan of Marvel, but I’m not a fanboy that will fall on my knees, worship and adore anything that has the Marvel name slapped on the package. X-Men: Destiny was a very frustrating game to play.

Firstly, it is not a true RPG: your tech tree for powers is not very advanced. Playing through the game, I expected that leveling up would make a big difference when coming across the same type of bad guys. It really didn’t.

by Caleb Paullus, Media Editor Games

If you weren’t playing Magic the Gathering this weekend, then you were probably out drinking, which is almost as fun. If you were playing, then you hopefully had a chance to play at one of the Innistrad release events.

The release of Innistrad brings dark power to your decks. Full of new vampires, transforming werewolves, ghastly spirits, endless zombies and humans (power in numbers) this new set is an excitly fun addition.

The release of this set contains 264 new cards, 5 intro decks and 2 yet to be revealed event decks.

Video Game Review: Magic the Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012

by Caleb Paullus, Video Game Editor

During Comic Con, I bumped into the reps from Wizards of the Coast. I was lucky enough to score a promo code to play Magic the Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012. Now if you’ve played the more recent version (which is free to Playstation Network Plus members) you’ll remember how fun it was. It did have some things that needed to be fixed though…specifically the length of the game, it was too short.

Now here am, after playing nothing but this game for three straight weeks. I still can’t put down the controller! Maybe I’m just ultra nerdy because I’m hooked, but I think it’s pretty freaking fun (or how I like to say PFF!) So you ask me “You’re playing Magic the Gathering?” I respond with “PFF, Yeah!” Anywho lets dig in.

Gaming News: Lollypop Chainsaw coming your way

by Caleb Paullus, Media Editor Games

In a very short, but sweet announcement WB Games, Kadokawa Games, and Grasshopper Manufacture have announced a partnership and game called “Lollipop Chainsaw”.

Lollipop Chainsaw is the ‘un-deadly’ story of sweet and killer zombie hunter Juliet Starling and her quest to uncover the root of a colossal zombie outbreak.  With her wickedly awesome chainsaw in hand, Juliet slices, dices and splits her way through hordes of the undead, but soon realizes the horde is only the opening act to a festival of zombie rock lords determined to kill the chainsaw wielding cheerleader.

Checking out their site I can tell this is something you might enjoy. That is if you like chainsaws, cute cgi girls and upskirts.

SDCC2011: Video Game News: Darksiders II

by Caleb Paullus, Media Editor Games

We were invited to a special little shindig during comic con to check out the latest update on Darksiders II. Let me just start off by saying…the mashed potatoes at the party were delicious. Also…HOLY SHIT.

So in the first game, you played as war, which was tons of fun destroying everything in your path. Now you play as Death. I know you may be thinking, WTF, why did you change the main character you idiots???? I thought that too at first, but after I realized that the Darksiders story line was so complex that it only made sense to have the next game through the eyes other another horseman.

Movie Review: Transformers: Dark of the Moon

by Caleb Paullus, Media Editor

Just when I thought I couldn’t get enough explosions and Sexy Autobot Action, Michael Bay graces me with the next installment, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. In this blasterpiece (see what I did there?), we are introduced to a plethora of new Autobots and Decepticons, a sexy new girlfriend, explosions, and the epic voice of Leonard Nimoy. I guarantee* you will enjoy this movie a million times more than the second Transformers film.

Minor Spoilers Ahead: Beware!

Movie News: Green Lantern: Emerald Knights – Interview with Nathan Fillion

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights is releasing on June 7th, and here is a recent interview conducted by WB in honor of the release. Nathan Fillion explains the realistic desires of being a superhero and how he feels about the characters he plays and learning to capture their personality. He also talks of his dreams of being evil (I am glad I am not the only one).

And in the video he references mid-video, you can watch the amazingly awesome fan made trailer with Nathan Fillion as the Green Lantern rather than the utterly annoying Ryan Reynolds…

iPad Game Review: Thor Son of Asgard

by Caleb Paullus, Media Editor, Games

You’ve seen the movie right? If you haven’t read our review on it and then get your butt into a theater and watch it already!

Okay, you’re back, you’ve seen the movie. Now, buy the game on your iPad or iPhone! Thor: Son of Asgard, now available in the App Store, is a fun game where players assume the role of Thor and take an epic journey to defend Odin’s Kingdom.

Let me clarify that the game has NOTHING to do with the movie. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but don’t buy the gaming thinking it’s based off the movie.

Movie Review: Thor

FUCKING THOR! By Caleb Paullus

by Caleb Paullus Media Editor

The God of Hammer-Stroking. Guardian of Asgard.

Let me start off by saying that its difficult to watch a movie for an hour and fourteen minutes when your blood is no longer rushing to your brain. Lucky for you, you don’t need a brain to enjoy this fantastic expansion of the Marvel Universe, Thor.

Don’t see this movie if you are going to try and compare it to just the recent Marvel films released (Iron Man, Iron Man II, The Incredible Hulk) you will be disappointed. However if you look at it comparing it to every Marvel film released in the last twenty years, then you will very satifyied.
