"Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind. Or forgotten." -Lilo
Aliens. Elvis. Kids. Family. Hawaii. Surfing. If you're a fan of any of these things, you will likely love Lilo & Stitch Which is now re-released in its blue-in-color but sadly standard definition only "2-Disc Big Wave Edition".
It seems that there's no Blu-ray announced as on the way, so it's likely safe to pick up this edition if you don't already have Lilo & Stitch on DVD on your shelf.
Experiment 626, a six-limbed blue furry weapon of mass destruction was illegally created in a lab by space-alien mad scientist Dr. Jumba Jookiba (David Ogden Stiers - M*A*S*H, Spirited Away, Hoodwinked!, Myst V, Kingdom Hearts II, Justice League, The Dead Zone, Stargate: Atlantis) who is therefore put on trial before the Galactic Federation. 626 escapes and Jumba follows him to Earth, specifically to Kauai, where 626 blends into the local population by hiding his extra limbs in his fur and is, somehow through Disney magic, believed to be a stray dog by the local population. If you think about it, it's kind of creepy to the degree of the "Mexican Pet" urban legend. 626 is given the name "Stitch" and adopted from the pound by Lilo (Daveigh Chase - Donnie Darko, S. Darko, The Ring, Big Love) a sweet precocious Hawaiian orphan girl who lives with her older sister Nani (Tia Carrere - Wayne's World, Relic Hunter). The situation escalates as the other aliens close in and an oddly-named Man in Black, Cobra Bubbles (Ving Rhames - Pulp Fiction, Mission: Impossible 1-3, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Dawn of the Dead, Aquaman), is after all the aliens. In the end, after a lot of action sequences result in massive destruction, Lilo and Stitch come together as family, and it seems that (*SPOILER*) paperwork from the animal shelter on Earth trumps a Galactic Federal Court ordered bounty on a dangerous and illegal creature. Who knew?

"Does this look infected to you?"
Lilo & Stitch is the last 2-D Disney film with any staying power, and thus has a special place in both "the Disney Vault" and our shelves. It likewise stands out by virtue of its unique characters, location, and theme among the rest of Disney's library. Its strong message of family is welcome among my family, and now that it's been re-released, you can invite Lilo & Stitch into your family as well.
ComicsOnline gives Lilo & Stitch 2-Disc Big Wave Edition 4 out of 5 aliens in the family.
