CC2010: Transformers: Prime Premieres on Hub! “The Bucket Head is Back!”
The Transformers series has undergone a series of changes over the years. Your favorite robots have even appeared on the big screen, but now they are set for a new revival this October. “Ten, ten, ten!”, cheered the crowd, after hearing the release date will be on October 10, 2010. However, that will not be the only new gem out there. On October 10th, Transformers Prime will premiere on an all new station tagged “Hub”. Leading Hub is a woman that is responsible for bringing about shows such as Batman: The Animated Series, Muppet Babies, and The Smurfs. She also started up Fox Kids and brought Power Rangers to America. Margaret Loesch now returns to break new ground with Hub with the premiere of Transformers Prime.
Transformers Prime will be a fusion of new cutting edge CGI technology, and the classic Generation 1 (G1) series. One classical element that will be brought to the new series is the reunification of voice actors Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime) and Frank Welker (Megatron). Directors were not shy about hinting toward other classical appearances in the new series. “The Bucket Head is back!”, raves director Dave Heartman in reference to the similar look of Megatron to the original. Megatron differs in his vehicle form – although he still transforms into a space ship, his form represents futuristic technology. Heartman explains that Megatron has a firm belief that Earth’s technology is inferior to Cybertron’s technology, and they wanted to portray that aspect to emphasize Megatron’s hate for Earth.
While heavily inspired by the G1 series, director Dave Heartman stresses to the Comic-Con audience that he wants to break new ground, beginning with a new set of humans to act as partners for the Autobots. Peter Cullen surprised Comic-Con goers with a special appearance to support the changes made to the series and reinforce the qualities that will stay the same. To the crowds delight, Peter was able to answer questions and generally accept comments.
The audience played witness to the testimony of a mother who lost her son to cancer. She explained to Cullen that her son was raised on his voice talent, and said to Cullen, “You are the soul of Optimus Prime.” He responded to her kind words and touching story with a warm embrace. The moment stood out so greatly that the next person in line had difficulty following her testimony.
Cast, crew, and fans alike are ecstatic for the premiere on October 10, 2010 and the future looks promising for Transformers Prime.
