Purpose is Key

A decade ago or so, parts of the Department of Defense adopted The Fours Pillars of Resilience to handle the incredible amount of stress and incidents of self-harm. Where I was stationed in a remote outpost in Alaska, self-harm could spread like a contagion. So after three incidents in the local community, many of us attended resiliency training. I still incorporate what I learned in my daily striving for mental balance, but what helped the most with my trauma-induced anxiety was finding purpose through volunteering.

The “best we can do” saying is something I later used in a eulogy for my best friend, Tim Dobson, when he passed away later that year. He definitely made my world a better place, and continues to do so.

#NotesforTracy is an all ages comicstrip, inspired from people and happenings in my life. The Critters deal with anxiety, small town superheroes, gym rats, preschool capers, and SO many dad jokes! This comic strip started as doodles on sticky pad notes, and the audience includes family, friends, and now a growing #CritterTribe!
