Blu-ray Review: Office Space (Special Edition)Blu-ray Review: Office Space (Special Edition)

“You took my stapler”.

Everyone has hated their job at one time or another…but what happens when you are pushed too far? Well Peter Gibbons sure knows that feeling in Mike Judge’s cult comedy classic Office Space which has just made its way to Blu-ray! The film is based on Mike Judges cartoon series Milton and features an amazing lineup of acting talent!

Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston from Band of Brothers) is a programmer at a data company called Initech. His workday has become a routine of trying to just make it through the day without having to deal with his incompetent boss Bill Lumbergh (Gary Cole from B5: Crusade, Pineapple Express). Joining Peter in a state of utter frustration are his two friends Samir Nagheenanajar (Ajay Naidu from Bad Santa) and Michael Bolton (David Herman from MadTV). Co-worker Milton Waddams (Stephen Root from NewsRadio) must deal with management’s attempts to relocate his desk and take his red Swingline Stapler which he brought from home.

Peter finally snaps and begins to fix the things at work that make him unhappy. Peter just doesn’t care anymore and his new found lack of caring has caught the attention of two consultants (John C. McGinley from Scrubs and Paul Willson from Cheers) who want to promote him! They believe that Peter’s honesty and straightforward attitude are just what they company needs. Peter learns that the two men are going to fire his friends and thus the three men come up with a plot to ensure they leave with full pockets by utilizing a programing scheme that is straight out of Superman 3 (which is acknowledged in the film). The film also features Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston as Peter’s love interest.

Overall
Hello loyal reader. If you don’t own this film (and even if you do) this is one that you should own multiple copies of. You should be watching this movie all the time. It is that good. I have owned this movie on VHS, DVD, and now Blu-ray and I have to say it withstands the tests of time. It is a film that very aptly demonstrates the way that we all feel at some point in our lives…This is a comedy that will be around for a long time and won’t get old.

The Blu-ray release includes a few new features as well as some from the Special Edition DVD release from a few years ago. This is a fun movie folks. Go out a pick up a copy.

ComicsOnline gives Office Space: Special Edition Blu-ray 5 out of 5 Red Swingline Staplers.
