Comic Book Review: Batman Beyond: Neo-Gothic #2

by Matt Sernaker, Managing Editor

Terry’s journey to Old-Gotham continues! What lurks under the streets of Neo-Gotham? Batman is in for a KILLER surprise, as Killer Croc makes his Beyond-era debut in Batman Beyond: Neo-Gothic #2 from DC.

Creative Team:
Writers: “Hivemind” Jackson Lanzing & Collin Kelly
Artist: Max Dunbar
Colorist: Sebastian Cheng
Letterer: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou

It’s Batman Beyond versus a very angry, very BIG version of Killer Croc! Why did Bruce lock Waylon down in the depths of Gotham years ago, and what other secrets are just around the corner? With a surprising assist from Kyle the Catboi (and his magical bag of tricks), Terry is about to find out what it takes to stop this classic Bat-Villain. While Batman is facing a new threat, we also find out more about what is happening top-side with Lumos and his latest scheme. Are brighter days ahead for Neo-Gotham? Knowing Lanzing & Kelly, we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg…

Batman Beyond: Neo-Gothic #2 continues to provide an exciting new adventure in the world of tomorrow. What happens when you have a giant monster fight underneath a city? The Gotham quake of ’98 is about to seem like a walk in the park as Croc’s Kaiju-sized threat is felt throughout the story. This colossal version of the character was perfectly redesigned by the creative team, adding a new layer to the terror below. Also, I’m thoroughly enjoying the dynamic between Terry and Kyle, and look forward to seeing how this partnership continues to evolve. Lastly, we are about to learn more about who/what was buried in the rubble of the old city, as the Court of Owls are poised to make their return!

Rating: ★★★★★

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
