Comic Book Review: The Lucky Devils #4

by Ryan Martin, Reporter

The latest installment of The Lucky Devils is finally out, and it looks like things are about to get really intense! Hell is literally going to… well, Hell!

Official Synopsis:

The sinfully good adventure continues as we descend to the fourth circle, where the greediest among us end up. Our devilish heroes Collar and Rake have successfully begun their revolutionary plan to destabilize Hell by secretly doing good up on Earth—but the demonic bigwigs are taking notice. They’ve called in a terrifying hunter to find the devils responsible for all this underworld disarray…and this lady is BAD NEWS. What the hell will our lucky little devils do?

First of all, I am glad that Ryan Browne is doing better and almost back to full power, but one has to wonder…  Given the amazing quality and success of the series so far, did he make a deal with the devil himself? I kid, of course, but for more information on why this latest issue was delayed, read the conversation in the back of the issue between Ryan and Charles.

Hell is in pretty rough shape, and the apparent rulers, the Nine-Zeds, are ready to do something about it. They hire the chameleon like hunter, Sandpaper Pinch to root out the ones causing all the chaos. Little do they know that good ole’ Sandy intends to drag this out and milk them for all the money he can. That is until he is given the motivation via catastrophe to actually do his job. Back on Earth, our human duo of Cam and Starr finally connect with one another and they definitely bond of their shared devilish experiences. It seems they will be working together to try and stay on the straight and narrow, and you have to ask yourself the question, was this Collar and Rake’s plan all along?

This issue was absolutely worth the wait! The world and lore of Hell are getting bigger and better, and it’s not too overwhelming to take in. The new characters we meet are disgustingly designed (that’s a compliment) and named cleverly. Each one seems like they could have spinoff adventures, but right now I want to know more about Collar and Rake, and what lies in store for them once they have a run in with Sandy.

Also, big kudos to Zander Cannon for jumping to help Ryan with the breakdowns while he was on the mend. I’m excited to get back to a bi-monthly release schedule for the remaining issues, as four months was far too long without my favorite Devils!
