It’s time to boldly seek out new life and new civilizations with the intrepid crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise! Captain Pike and the rest of the Strange New Worlds ensemble are about to begin a horror-infused new adventure with the launch of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – The Seeds of Salvation from IDW Publishing. The first chapter hits stores this week, and is brought to us by writer Robbie Thompson (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Season 4 and The Sin Bin), artist Travis Mercer (Teen Titans), colorist JP Jordan (VR Troopers), and letterer Jodie Troutman (DC Pride 2025).
When a research crew goes missing on the alien planet of Poilant, it’s up to Chapel, Una, Spock, La’An, and Scotty to solve the mystery! Something is bubbling beneath the surface of this planet, lurking beneath the depths. What exactly has the missing science team stumbled onto, and what does it mean for Christine’s missing scientist friend? Meanwhile, members of the crew are dealing with internal struggles and question how they might be perceived by their peers. Are these things connected? We’re not sure yet, but… ancient aliens, aquatic adventures, new robotic friends, and a journey of self-discovery awaits in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – The Seeds of Salvation #1!
Star Trek with a Lovecraftian horror twist wasn’t on my bingo card for 2025, but this is a fun adventure for Pike and the crew. Incorporating the aquatic setting into the story allows for a true fish-out-of-water story for our cosmic explorers. IDW Publishing has definitely adopted the “something for everyone” approach with this new wave of Trek titles, and The Seeds of Salvation is off to a very strong start. Also, the logo for this mini-series is pretty clever.
