ComicsOnline kicked off 2026 by reading a TON of comics. There’s a lot to talk about, and we wanted to highlight some of our picks for the week of January 7th, 2026.

DC K.O. Knightfight #3
Rating:

Official Synopsis: All-star creators Joshua Williamson and Dan Mora deliver the next pulse-pounding chapter of Batman’s journey during DC K.O., giving us the Dark Knight’s greatest challenge yet. Jason Todd is Batman. Tim Drake is Batman. And to complete his mission, Bruce Wayne will have to fight both of them. The former Robins aren’t giving up without a fight, and it will take everything Batman has — and then some — in order to defeat them. Does Batman have what it takes to defeat both of his pupils, or have the students become the masters?
Review: The third chapter of Knightfight wraps up the Jason Todd/Batman fight from the previous issue in spectacular fashion and then quickly moves on to a world where Tim Drake is truly the World’s Greatest Detective. Tim finding his path as a Batman who really leans into the Sherlock Holmes approach instead of using his fists is the perfect outcome, and the DC K.O. story continues to subvert expectations and give readers a damn good Batman story that easily stands on it’s own. Tim Drake was the Robin that I grew up reading, and the characterization here was everything I hoped it would be. There are some major callbacks to Bruce and Tim’s history, and now I have the need to go read through my Robin issues from the 90s. Lastly, the setup for the final act will tear at your heartstrings, so get ready for some crying. #EmotionalDamage

Batman #5
Rating:

Official Synopsis: A night out with Bruce Wayne goes off the rails immediately for Dr. Annika Zeller — it seems her experimental Crown of Storms has her marked for death. And if they survive the legendary 000 Gang, they’ll still have to confront the sinister assassin known as The Ojo!
Review: The latest chapter of the newly relaunched Batman puts the spotlight on Bruce Wayne and his new love interest Annika Zeller as they fight their way through a kinda-date complete with katana-wielding motorcyclists and deadly assassins. As much as I shipped Bruce and Selina, this new dynamic duo is proving to be a highlight of the series. Speaking of duos, Fraction and Jimenez continue their hot streak with another phenomenal issue. Each installment is edge-of-your-seat quality, and I always appreciate the creative takes on the gorgeous splash pages. And that cliffhanger! We’re only a few issues into their run, but we truly hope that this creative team has a lengthy tenure on Batman.

Poison Ivy #40
Rating:

Official Synopsis: POLITICAL IMMUNITY! Poison Ivy is tired of having to look over her shoulder constantly. Hoping to secure a place of safety for herself, she sneaks back into Gotham City to meet with Police Commissioner Vandal Savage! Will the immortal caveman help her out, or will this meeting be the spark that sets off an explosive new chapter in Poison Ivy’s life? Find out!
Review: Poison Ivy’s return to Gotham is a great starting point for new readers. With so many great comics out these days, it’s been hard to keep up with all of the incredible books coming out from DC, but I’m really glad that I made the time for this one. Ivy’s interaction with Commissioner Vandal Savage was a true highlight, and I can’t wait to see where this new arc goes. The intentionality behind Ivy’s choices is expertly written, and the contrast between the green and the backdrop of Gotham leads to some powerful panels.

Absolute Superman #15
Rating:

Official Synopsis: A DAY IN THE LIFE OF ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN! In the shocking aftermath of the Battle of Kansas, Superman wrestles with profound changes to his life, his allies, and even his costume. But more importantly, there’s work to be done, as we experience a day in the life of the world’s busiest superhero — and welcome guest artist Juan Ferreyra (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) to the series!
Review: A new arc begins for Absolute Superman! Kal-El struggles to find a balance in the world after the shocking events leading to this issue. The screams of people in need are taking a toll, while the need to take on the rich and powerful continues to drive his resolve. The aftermath of his battle with Ra’s allows for some unique character development that I wouldn’t have predicted. This issue was an engaging next step in the journey of the Absolute Universe’s Clark Kent, clearly demonstrating that there’s a lot more to say through the lens of this alternate take on the classic hero.

The Amazing Spider-Man #19
Rating:

Official Synopsis: SPIDEY VS. HELLGATE, ROUND TWO! The spacefaring SPIDER-MAN heads back to Earth — only to find HELLGATE standing in his way! Spider-Man’s finally strong enough to beat the most powerful foe he’s ever faced… right?!
Review: This is the single best issue of Spider-Man I’ve read in YEARS. I’ll admit, I’ve struggled to enjoy ASM for quite a bit, but I’ve stuck with it because (like Peter), I remain cautiously optimistic. That wait paid off, and I’m beyond thrilled with the cosmic webslinger’s adventures. The dynamic between his new supporting cast works better than it should, and this issue made me laugh out loud more times than I can count. The art is stellar, and the coloring helps drive home the impressive nature of the out-of-this-world narrative.

X-Men #23
Rating:

Official Synopsis: AGE OF REVELATION EPILOGUE! One X-Man of the present has been stranded in the Age of Revelation, fighting against impossible odds in the world of tomorrow. But while they’ve been there, what has their future counterpart been doing in their body in the present?
Review: The Age of Revelation is finally over, and while the event went on way longer than it should have, the potential for what comes next seems infinitely more compelling than the future-arc itself. All of the tie-ins felt like a bit too much (and paper thin at times), but the event finale and this epilogue proved to be killer X-Men stories. We finally get a glimpse at what Future-Scott was doing in the present, and the older Cyclops definitely demonstrated the strategist that we’ve been missing. The art for the fight sequence was a standout of the issue, and I’m back on board with where the next round of X-books is headed.

Inferno Girl Red #2
Rating:

Official Synopsis: The Griffin has returned, confidence in Inferno Girl Red is fading, and The Twins are ramping up to something big. Could things get any worse for Cássia? In her darkest hour, Cássia will learn more about the heroic Inferno Girl Red lineage — but will that be enough to avert looming disaster?
Review: Inferno Girl Red’s second arc continues with another solid chapter. The art style perfectly complements IGR’s brand of heroics, and the colors are bursting from the page. I’m loving Cássia’s personal journey, and the setup for the final issue will leave you excited for whatever comes next.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Battle Nexus #2
Rating:

Official Synopsis: Stranded in the Battle Nexus dimension by a twisted villain bent on annihilating every Ninja Turtle in the multiverse, the TMNT are forced to fight some of the greatest warriors of all time. In the first official bout, Ninja Turtle leader Leonardo is matched up with the TMNT’s greatest enemy, the Shredder! But our Leo is surprised to discover this is not the Oroku Saki he knows so well, but someone entirely different… someone much more deadly… someone who hates him with a fire he’s never felt before. Prepare yourself for the return of the most iconic and fearsome villain in Turtles history: Eastman & Laird’s original Shredder!
Review: Worlds collide in this epic celebration of all things Turtles. Battle Nexus captures the magic of classic TMNT Adventures comics and the thrill of old-school tournament video games. Leo’s battle with classic Shredder was pretty badass (or radical if you will), and definitely matched the energy from the cover art.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers – Zord Quest #1
Rating:

Official Synopsis: What defines a hero? The Power Rangers discover that for themselves in this special one-shot! After a devastating encounter with the villainous Madame Axe-A-Lot, the Mighty Morphin team is left questioning whether they truly have what it takes. To regain their confidence, they’ll each have to go on a spiritual quest of discovery to the breathtaking landmarks that their Zords call home! Will they be able to see for themselves the qualities that make them heroes at heart?
This latest Power Rangers one-shot story takes an interesting concept but fails to deliver. Odd choices with characterization and voices clash with canon (both from the show and comics). I typically love the Power Rangers titles from BOOM!, but this was a big miss for me as I was hoping for a lot more.
