PS3 Game Review: X-Men: Destiny

Choose your powers. Choose your allies. Choose your destiny.

by Caleb Paullus, Video Game Editor

Choose your limited powers. Choose you allies which don’t really seem to make a difference. Sort of choose your destiny.

That’s really what the tagline should be for the game, but if they did that, it probably wouldn’t sell better than it is. Let me start off by saying I’m a BIG fan of Marvel, but I’m not a fanboy that will fall on my knees, worship and adore anything that has the Marvel name slapped on the package. X-Men: Destiny was a very frustrating game to play.

Firstly, it is not a true RPG: your tech tree for powers is not very advanced. Playing through the game, I expected that leveling up would make a big difference when coming across the same type of bad guys. It really didn’t.

TV Review: The Walking Dead – “Bloodletting” Episode 202 Advance Look

EPISODE 202: “Bloodletting”
Coming to the aid of another, Rick discovers a possible safe haven. Shane must go on a dangerous mission to get badly needed medical supplies.

by Kevin Gaussoin, Editor-in-Chief

Last weekend The Walking Dead shambled back into our living rooms and our hearts (and braaains). The 90-minute premiere led our group of survivors down the road to ruin, where they hit a dead end. As you no doubt know already, one of their number  didn’t return after a zombie chase, and everyone worked together to search. Of course this led to the explosive cliff-hanger ending where a beloved character gets quite a dear surprise.

Beware minor spoilers!

NYCC2011: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Preview Panel

Get ready to conquer a new kingdom, because Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is coming out to hit your consoles in the face with fantastical awesomeness. Of course, by fantasical awesomeness, I mean logic and sense-making. For a lot of fantasy fans, this is a wet-dream come true.

The game is a single-player RPG, centering around the Well of Souls: a sort of resurrection machine. Up until the creation of the Well of Souls, resurrecting the dead was not possible, and its sudden appearance affects the world greatly (the NPCs are drastically affected, shown by their in-game dialogue). The player is the first life form resurrected by the Well of Souls, and is left to explore the world they left behind through new eyes. The player’s actions affect gameplay, the environment, and future quests.

Movie Review: Real Steel

Written by Ashley Penrod, Assistant Editor

So, picture that you have several movie-ingredients sitting on your countertop. Said ingredients are as follows:

  • Rocky

  • Transformers (first one – the not-crappy one)

  • Ong Bak

  • Million Dollar Baby

  • Wolverine

  • C-3PO

Along with random bits of freaking awesomeness (add to taste) – what might one expect to get after blending these bits and pieces? The answer can be found in the new Disney CGI romp, “Real Steel”. As I hadn’t even heard of the movie, my counterpart, Managing Editor Matt Sernaker, told me “Its Rock-em-Sock-em Robots: The Movie. You’ll like it.” While this answered all of none of my questions, I was bored and figured a movie sounded good.
