Previously in Star Trek: “Day of Blood” – Part 1:

The crossover event kicked off with the crews of the Theseus and the Defiant reuniting on the Klingon world of Qo’noS. Worf and Sisko obviously have issues to work out, but we are also treated to memorable moments with Data and Lore, as well as Tom and B’Elanna that add more layers to this overdue gathering. Meanwhile, Kahless puts out a battle cry to the Klingon Homeworld, telling his people that there is a new way…a new Red Path forward. To no surprise, many take their leader up on his call to action and the uprising has officially begun.

Now in Star Trek: “Day of Blood” – Part 2:

With their crews scattered across and above Qo’noS, Captains Sisko and Worf find themselves alone for the first time since Worf’s departure.  The middle of a war is totally the perfect time to hash things out and get to the bottom of some long-standing personal issues. Meanwhile, readers are treated to a TOS (Those Old Scientists) reunion, as Captain Scott and Spock find themselves engaged in battle with the Bloodwings over the planet. Thanks to some inspiration from Spock, Scotty is encouraged to use a few tricks that he had up his sleeve. Back on the planet, Dr. Crusher, Sela, and X search for Chancellor Martok in the hopes of stopping the war before it is too late. Back on the Defiant, Tom and B’Elanna work out some marital issues as they strive to get the ship up and running as quickly as possible, all with the threat of Red Path warriors making their way onboard. And lastly, the Soong Family Reunion continues as Data and Lore make their way across the surface to find Korath’s laboratory. Can Lore convince his brother that he has the best of intentions now that he has been reassembled?

The “Day of Blood” crossover event continues to excite with each new chapter. Cantwell’s installment is full of amusing character moments and developments. Although this issue was used to move the characters into strategic positions for the larger narrative, all of the engagements felt important. Unzueta’s art style and Louise’s colors help to bring a sense of urgency and impending doom on the Klingon Homeworld, adding to the harsh reality that our heroes are facing. The story continues in IDW Publishing’s Star Trek #11!

Rating: ★★★★½

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
