If you thought IDW’s Star Trek comics were bold before, you ain’t seen nothin yet…
Star Trek: The Last Starship heads into unknown territory for a thrilling new adventure featuring the creative talents of Hivemind writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly (Star Trek) and artist Adrián Bonilla (Alkaios). After reading an advance copy of this book, I can say that this is the perfect creative team to explore a strange time in the history of Star Trek AND one hell of a way to bring Captain Kirk back in the fold. We are going to avoid spoilers since we are so far out from release, but the entire first chapter felt cinematic in nature and features some fantastic elements of Trek that had fallen through the cracks. There is something for everyone here, and I love that the shackles are off with this book since there is very little established canon for this particular timeframe.
Since today is FOC for the first issue, we wanted to make sure to get this on your radar because this is such a unique entry in the world of Trek. Make sure you reach out to your local comic book stores today to place your order, and check out our exclusive interview with Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly (with Christopher Cantwell, Star Trek: Red Shirts – another amazing book) at SDCC 2025.

ComicsOnline gives Star Trek: The Last Starship #1 – 4.5 out of 5 shocking launch issues.
Official Synopsis:
The Federation has fallen. Hope is fading. One last starship remains to fight for the future… unless a resurrected James T. Kirk dooms it first.
Fresh off one of the greatest eras in the history of Star Trek comics, writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly along with rising star and artist Adrián Bonilla (Alkaios), now bring you a new mission the likes of which comics have never seen before.
For seven centuries, the United Federation of Planets brought together the entire Galaxy with peace, stability, enlightenment, and the promise of mutual protection. And then, in one terrible moment, it all crumbled in an event known as THE BURN, a Galaxy-wide disastrous event in which dilithium has gone inert, causing the detonation of every active warp core. The only ship remaining is a hack-and-slash Enterprise-Omega and its ragtag crew. Facing a true Wild West in space, the crew will need to make use of what few resources they have to uphold Starfleet’s mission of unity across the universe… and Captain Kirk will have to face a future without the Federation he loved so dearly…
