Comic Book Reviews: Week of 1/14/2026

ComicsOnline kicked off 2026 by reading a TON of comics. There’s a lot to talk about, and we wanted to highlight some of our picks for the week of January 14th, 2026.

DC K.O. #3
Rating: ★★★★★ – FLAWLESS VICTORY

Official Synopsis: THE ELITE EIGHT REMAIN — AND ALL HELL IS GOING TO BREAK LOOSE! IT’S TAG-TEAM TIME! As the Omega Tournament reaches its endgame, the final eight combatants are put to the ultimate test — confronted with a decades-long stay in their own personal hell! Emotions run high as heroes falter, villains revel, and the Heart of Apokolips eyes its new King Omega. In the end, only the final four will remain…

Review: The unpredictable nature of DC K.O. is truly taking the comic book event concept to the next level. The team-up aspect of Round 3 was a true highlight, with each of the surviving fighters demonstrating a keen understanding of the stakes and employing powerful strategies that will shock and awe with each new panel. No spoilers, but there’s no way that the internet isn’t talking about this book by the end of the day.

Green Lantern Corps #12
Rating: ★★★★☆

Official Synopsis: AN ARMY KNOCKING ON OA’S DOOR! Tensions between the Lanterns on Oa boil over, and the fate of the Thanagarian refugees is in the balance! Meanwhile, Enquar continues to build his army, and Guy Gardner and Kilowog’s trainees are in their eerie blue sights!

Review: OA becomes an emotional spectrum powder keg in the new run of Green Lantern Corps, leading to new interpersonal dynamics and strong characterization for fan-favorites. Seeing the next generation of Lanterns come up through the ranks makes this book a consistent win for readers. This title is in great hands.

The Ultimates #20
Rating: ★★★★½

Official Synopsis: THE FIRE AND THE (SERGEANT) FURY! Following up on the darkly brilliant ULTIMATE UNIVERSE: ONE YEAR IN… the Maker’s Council’s army of Nick Fury LMDs comes back into play! Secrets of the Fury program — and of H.A.N.D. — will be revealed!

Review: The Ultimate Vision stands revealed! The shocking story of The Vision is on par with the amazing Doctor Doom tale from early in The Ultimates run, revealing a secret history and another fantastic addition to the narrative before launching headfirst into the “Endgame” finale. I honestly enjoyed everything about this chapter, as the execution couldn’t have been more satisfying.

Transformers #28
Rating: ★★★★½

Official Synopsis: MIRAGE and BULKHEAD are back in action! Get ready for awesome! And Arcee makes a stunning decision THAT WILL SHOCK EVERY TRANSFORMERS FAN!

Review: We knew it was coming. That patented Robert Kirkman “dot dot dot somebody’s gonna die” moment was only a matter of time. Just like his other books, Kirkman makes it sting, but also uses this choice to push the narrative forward in an interesting way (I just hope that said character wasn’t your personal favorite). Dan Mora continues to deliver insanely stunning takes on the world of Transformers (let’s be real, he’s killing it on ALL of the books he’s drawing across publishers), and the new upgrades to a fan-favorite character were a welcomed addition to the Transformers story. This issue is sure to send shockwaves (not the robot) throughout the Energon Universe. I sure hope you get to read this before it gets posted everywhere online.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #14
Rating: ★★★★½

Official Synopsis: Ujigami strikes again! The mysterious new villain has claimed another victim in their drive to make the city “safe” at any cost. While the Turtles still struggle to get any upper hand on their new adversary, Donatello has suspicions about their true identity that may mean a whole new set of problems for our half-shell heroes. Trying to get ahead, the Turtles set a trap using Ujigami’s likely next victim as bait: the leader of the Foot Clan, Karai!

Review: It’s always interesting to see how fast a creative team clicks with their readers. In the case of TMNT, the new minds behind the book are clear with their intentions and desire to make this one of the best stories available each month. This latest chapter has everything you could want from a Turtles comic.

Star Trek: Lower Decks #15
Rating: ★★★★★

Official Synopsis: When Commander Jack Ransom promised Boimler command of the away team on Laapoonia in the event that both he and Sun-Sanchez — his Number One — were taken out of commission, he didn’t think it’d, like, actually happen. But now, Boimler is in charge, and things have gone full-blown Crisis Royale: A planet’s missing population, a big-ass alien warship, and a team at each other’s throats threaten to explosively end the Cerritos’ second-contact mission with Laapeeria. The name’s Boimler. Brad Boimler. And he’s got a license to… mildly delegate while panicking under pressure.

Review: We knew Tim Sheridan could do comedy. We knew he could do tense action. Lower Decks #15 brings the most tension we’ve seen in Lower Decks while still bringing the ridiculous comedy and Trek nostalgia that we’re here for.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
