Comic Book Reviews: Week of 1/21/2026

ComicsOnline kicked off 2026 by reading a TON of comics. There’s a lot to talk about, and we wanted to highlight some of our picks for the week of January 21st, 2026.

X-Men #24
Rating: ★★★★☆

Official Synopsis: Bring on the bad guys! In the wake of the Age of Revelation, the gene-terrorist group 3K has been revitalized. But will their internal schemes undo them?

Review: X-Men goes full Lord of the Rings with multiple epilogue issues for the “Age of Revelation” event, but both prove to be more compelling than the majority of the event itself. While the last issue focused on the ramifications for time-displaced Cyclops, this new story shifts the focus to 3K and the newly revealed Chairman. What exactly is Hank going to do with ten years of data? It’s worth the read to find out as the creative team delivers another x-cellent story.

The Amazing Spider-Man #20
Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Official Synopsis: NIGHT OF THE GOBLIN (SLAYERS)! Norman Osborn may be purged of his sins, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still come back to haunt him! HOBGOBLIN wants Norman out of the SPIDER-MAN game (and this life) for good — and he’s got the hyper-lethal tech of an entire goblin-slaying army at his disposal. What does Norman have…?! A Spider-Man or Woman or two who trust him as far as they can throw him…

Review: After such a spectacular cosmic chapter, it’s hard to come back down to Earth, but it’s time to focus once again on Norman and Ben. Norman’s past is finally catching up to him, and he will have to hope that the Parker-luck doesn’t truly come with the costume. Meanwhile, Ben’s story just…ends. It seems that the creative team just lost interest in this narrative, and I’m perfectly fine with moving on from another Ben (I’m not calling him Chasm) story. Ultimately, this chapter was not as impressive as the last, but it will be interesting to see how Peter feels about all of these antics when he returns from space. Sorry to say this one wasn’t for me.

Batman / Superman: World’s Finest #47
Rating: ★★★★☆

Official Synopsis: FUSION VS. MERGER! The combined might of Batman and Superman faces off against the combined might of The Joker and Lex Luthor in the knock-down, drag-out brawl of a conclusion to The Merger! Someone is about to get their not-too-distant past kicked!

Review: You can’t help but love this book! At the start of the title, fans were treated to the random (yet amazing) inadvertent fusion of Batman and Superman that featured another memorable design by Dan Mora. Nearly 40 issues later, we get to see the flip side of that concept, as the latest issue featured the unexpected “Merger” of Joker and Lex Luthor. The Joker with Lex’s mind is a dangerous thing, and no one will predict what comes from this one. Secrets are revealed and a price will be paid by one of our heroes. To no surprise, Mark Waid and Dan Mora continue to provide readers with an astonishing book.

If you are looking for the perfect DC title to introduce a new reader to the world of comics, Batman / Superman: World’s Finest would easily be my top choice.

Wonder Woman #29
Rating: ★★★★½

Official Synopsis: THE AMAZONS MEET THE DAUGHTER OF WONDER WOMAN! After barely surviving the trials of Mouse Man, Wonder Woman takes a much-deserved night off thanks to her sisters. But are the Amazons ready for their greatest challenge yet? Because in the DC Universe, babysitting always leads to adventure!

Review: The importance of community comes through beautifully with the main title debut of writer Stephanie Williams. The fact that she is no stranger to the world of Amazons made her the perfect candidate for an important two-part adventure before “The Wonder War” saga begins with their regular creative team. Williams’ tone perfectly complements the book, and we can only hope that the Editorial Powers-That-Be at DC are smart enough to give her an ongoing run when the current team eventually wraps up down the line (we still love you Tom). Baby Lizzie is going to get some interesting experiences with her sisters, and this was a great way to showcase Wonder Woman’s support structure.

DC K.O.: Green Lantern Galactic Slam #1
Rating: ★★★★☆

Official Synopsis: KYLE RAYNER BRINGS THE COSMIC REINFORCEMENTS! As the K.O. tournament rages on Earth, the cosmos holds its collective breath as the heroes of our planet fight for the survival of the very universe. But the cavalry is on the horizon! Kyle Rayner, in a bid to provide cover for his fellow Green Lanterns, has found himself pummeled across the galaxy and into the ring of… a wrestling federation?! Oh no… oh dear heavens no… is Omega Bam Man about to enter the DC K.O. fray?! Oh mah gawd! An entire cavalcade of brawlers is right behind him! Are there tables? Somebody get the tables!

Review: Let’s get ready to cosmic rumble! Kyle Rayner is accidentally whisked away in the middle of the fight for the universe and finds himself trapped in a galactic wrestling event with DC’s new sweetheart: Omega-Bam-Man! (Editor’s Note: Is “sweetheart” the right word for this character…? Other Editor’s Note: TOO LATE! RUNNING WITH IT!) The resulting chaos takes Kyle off the board for a bit, but a surprise connection to current universal events will take this new dynamic duo on an important, yet tragic, detour to save the day. If you’re a fan of Jeremy Adams run on The Flash and/or Green Lantern, then don’t miss the secret origin of Omega-Bam-Man! Seriously, this was a ridiculous one-shot story and another fun tie-in for DC K.O. (the event that keeps on giving).

Rogue Sun #32
Rating: ★★★★☆

Official Synopsis: MR POE is on the prowl, his terrifying pets in tow. With Dylan out of town, Aurie is the Rogue Sun of New Orleans — but can she prove herself against her most deadly foe yet?

Review: You had me at evil magical cat! The villainous Mr. Poe is easily my favorite from the growing Rogues Gallery and a diabolical addition to Rogue Sun. Dylan’s mystical superhero journey continues to be expertly balanced with the all-too-real high school (and now college) drama. Rogue Sun continues its hot streak and delivers another memorable chapter.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Battle Nexus #3
Rating: ★★★★½

Official Synopsis: As if the outcome of Leonardo vs. the original Shredder weren’t shocking enough, the Ninja Turtles are blown away to discover they’re not alone in the otherworldly realm of the Battle Nexus — or, indeed, in the universe itself. When the twisted battle master [REDACTED] calls for a wildcard match between former flames Raphael and Alopex, their prodigious fighting skills — and unbelievable tempers — could bring down the entire Battle Nexus!

Review: Things keep on getting crazier for our favorite heroes in a half-shell, as the multi-versal Battle Nexus event continues! Raphael is forced to come face-to-face with his love/greatest failure, as Aloplex enters the ring… A bloody reunion between these two was not in the cards, but damn was it good to see play out. Meanwhile, Donnie is starting to piece things together, and readers are treated to a reunion with another fan-favorite character: Ninjara! This creative team is pulling out the stops to ensure that this event touches the different corners of the Turtle-verse

Star Trek: The Last Starship #4
Rating: ★★★★½

Official Synopsis: THE BEGINNING OF A NEW CHAPTER! First Officer Wowie Carter was once called the child without fear. But with the Federation in freefall and Earth still reeling from a brutal Klingon assault, fear is all that remains — and Wowie is cracking under its weight. The U.S.S. Omega’s mission is clear: Gather the final delegates for the Babel Conference, the Federation’s last, fragile chance at unity. A future of peace still seems possible… on paper. But every time Wowie returns to Earth, the home they once loved slips further into despair. As alliances fracture and chaos spreads, Wowie faces a question no one dares ask: What’s left to save when hope is already gone?

Review: Did you love the pilot episodes for Starfleet Academy as we did? Then you need to check out Star Trek: The Last Starship. The harrowing events of the Burn just took place in the first three issues, and now the universe is stuck picking up the pieces. Earth was devastated in recent issues, and the Federation had seen better days. Only the U.S.S Omega remains, and the crew will need to make a life-altering decision in order to keep hope alive. First Officer Wowie takes the spotlight in this latest issue, and his journey will never be the same. We’ve loved every issue of this book since the stellar launch, but this chapter gets extremely personal, emotional, and downright tragic.

We are proud to call Star Trek: The Last Starship #4 our ComicsOnline Pick of the Week (yes, that’s a thing now).

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #4
Rating: ★★★★½

Official Synopsis: This penultimate issue sets the stage for a thrilling final battle that could change everything! When Super Zedd destroys a landmark of deep significance, it seems that all is lost for the Rangers and Turtles. And with their forces divided between dimensions, our heroes are left fighting a war on multiple fronts that’s beginning to seem hopeless… With everything hanging in the balance, can a mysterious visitor be the key to their survival?

Review: When all hope seems lost, an old friend enters the fray and comes to the aid of our favorite teenagers. All of the pieces are coming together as the story finally catches up to that shocking teaser in issue one. We don’t want to spoil this one, but there are some massive payoffs packed into this book, and both fans of both franchises will have a lot to cheer about.

MMPR/TMNT has been a consistent highlight of our pull list, and we love that this team is taking time to celebrate the journey every step of the way.

VR Troopers #6
Rating: ★★★★☆

Official Synopsis: The VR Troopers take on Grimlord in one last fight to save the world! Can the VR Troopers stop reality from crashing down around them? In this heart-pounding series conclusion, Ryan, J.B., and Kaitlin finally face Grimlord and his dreaded minion, Dark Heart — though their clash comes at a cost.

Review: Over the last few issues, the creative managed to perfectly capture the essence of VR Troopers and showcase the (dark) heart of their story. While we don’t want this comic to end, everything comes together for a big finale worthy of these fan-favorite characters. This book really deserved a longer run, and I’m thankful that we got more time with these heroes.

Inglorious X-Force #1
Rating: Rating: ★★★★☆

Official Synopsis: Professor Xavier’s original students became the X-Men. The new class became the New Mutants. Once, the man called Cable traveled back from the far future to the present to train this next generation as a military strike force. Now, in the face of an uncertain fate for mutantkind, Cable must once again lead an all-new… Inglorious X-Force

Review: Tim Seeley and Michael Santa Maria bring X-Force back in its latest incarnation. This time Cable assembles Archangel, Boom Boom, and Hellverine to save the future’s first mutant president. But why isn’t she jumping on the team and why isn’t she writing this book herself? And what’s Domino’s deal right now, anyway? Inglorious promises to be one of the best volumes of X-Force from the first shot!

Fantastic Four #7 (LGY#733)
Rating: ★★★★☆

Official Synopsis: A brilliant scientist–his best friend–the woman he loves–and her hotheaded younger brother! Together, they braved the unknown terrors of outer space and were transformed by cosmic rays into something more than merely human! Now they are the Fantastic Four…and the world will never be the same again!

After the Fantastic Four’s un-hackable security system was hacked, Reed Richards went to investigate and made a troubling discovery: The randomness of space itself had been hijacked and a message from Galactus embedded within. The message? Find Susan Storm.

Review: With a creative team led by Ryan North and Humberto Ramos, “The Invincible Woman” story arc is bound to be truly Fantastic! The Invincible Woman Part 2 “All Mankind’s Concern” features a story trope that fits the FF even better than most, succinctly summarized by the everlovin’ blue-eyed Thing as “I can’t but I must”. Meaning in this instance that the FF need to travel to and beyond the edge of the known universe to respond to this message from Galactus, but they have four kids! What are they to do?

Enlist their friends! I love that idea in general, but of course there was trouble. Trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with stinker. Two of the FF’s enlisted friends are top-tier characters that were summarily defeated—each in a single panel—this was more than a bit eye-rolling. This is not a crossover with Godzilla or Aliens/Predator so I expect more respect. That diss was the only thing keeping this issue of Fantastic Four from earning five stars.

Aside from that, I loved the teaser of what’s to come at the end, as well as the continued teases that this arc will include Malice or some equivalent. Check out this Skottie Young variant!

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
