Still Smitten is the fifth collection from Catana Comics, a popular webcomic about the marvelous mundanity of everyday life and relationships. James Joyce once said “In the particular is contained the universal,” and Catana Comics is a good example of that aphorism. My partner and I have often texted each other links to specific comics with the note “this is you.” Based on readers’ comments, it is a common feeling.

This collection focuses on the quirks of long term relationships, from competing to be your pet’s favorite parent to the experience of comfortable silence. It also touches on the challenges of keeping up with adult responsibilities, and the complementary ways partners develop to handle life as a unit. It is funny, joyful, and heart-warming.

The comics themselves are short-form, typically four panels. The art style is simple – black and white cartoon drawings reminiscent of vintage comic strips while still being modern. The book itself, from Andrew McMeel Publishing, looks and feels well-made, with thick pages and a red hardcover.
This lovely little book would be a great gift for Valentine’s Day or for anyone in your life who is a fan of these types of comic collections. Purchase options can be found on Catana Comics’ website: https://catanacomics.com/still-smitten/. Note: it can also be purchased as an ebook.
