Synopsis: Titan’s new comic series will explore the origins of one of Dead by Daylight’s original killers, The Hillbilly, and follows a rookie cop uncovering the face of pure evil…
I’ll be honest, it’s been a minute since I’ve picked up a new comic, let alone one that I have zero reference to the source material it is based on. Dead by Daylight: The Hillbilly #1 marks a return to comics for the best selling video game, and I can tell you I am totally ready to see where this goes!
We meet officer Darnell Hollis on a seemingly regular patrol, when a call for backup comes in and he’s immediately in the mix. The issue wastes no time dropping you into his world and represents what feels like your classic, cascading series of unfortunate events that quickly leads to a whole lotta bad stuff.
There was a building, foreboding sense of doom with every page I turned. So much so, I forgot I was reading issue #1 of a new comic series and was annoyed when I got to the last page and it said “…to be continued”!

The dialogue flows easily and the panel layouts capture a ton of detail that really brings a cinematic element to the story. A few of the panels felt so intense and chaotic, you just know whatever’s coming is probably going to be crazy.
Of course, fans of the video game will very much enjoy this ride and will love learning more about their favorite, iconic killers in Dead by Daylight: The Hillbilly #1. For the “Somehow, I never heard of this game” horror fans like me, get in and buckle up!
