Comic Book Reviews: Week of 4/15/2026

ComicsOnline kicked off 2026 by reading a TON of comics. There’s a lot to talk about, and we wanted to highlight some of our picks for the week of April 15th, 2026.

Wonder Woman #32
Rating: ★★★★★
by Matt Sernaker

Official Synopsis: THE WONDER WAR CONTINUES! ALL HAIL THE MATRIARCH! After a disastrous attempt at stopping the Matriarch, she has risen more powerful than ever. Now it’s up to Trinity, who finds herself alone as her allies fall one by one, to stop her childhood companion. Can the daughter of Wonder Woman finally live up to the name and all the pressures that come with it?

Review: The future isn’t looking so great for our favorite heroes… The Matriarch continues to dominate the DC Universe, and this new installment takes us behind the curtain for a very interesting interview with our new ruler. Meanwhile, Diana and Trinity get some quality time together while facilitating a daring rescue. I loved seeing these two heroines interact at this stage of Trinity’s journey. As expected, the mother/daughter dynamics on the battlefield provided some great visuals and moments of entertainment. I also appreciated the connection to Lizzie’s solo adventures in Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman, and the latest cliffhanger introduces some interesting new story elements for the Wonder War. Wonder Woman was already an incredible read, but the Wonder War takes the reader’s experience to the next level.

Radiant Black #41
Rating: ★★★★½
by Matt Sernaker

Official Synopsis: Horizon is Chicago’s hero, but the secrets waiting in a lab outside the city tell a different story. To get them, Radiant Black will need the help of an infiltration expert — if he and SHIFT don’t kill each other first.

Review: SHIFT IS BACK BABY! That’s all you need to know about this book. But seriously, the return of the fan-favorite (and Writer Kyle Higgins’ favorite) character is a great reason to check out this particular issue. There are so many great books on the shelves right now, but Radiant Black consistently stands out every month. Marshall’s desire to make a difference for Chicago (and you know, the rest of the world) is testing his limits, and I’m truly enjoying his evolution as he fully realizes his potential as the one-and-only Radiant Black. And again, Shift is always a welcome addition to the ongoing narrative (where is his solo ongoing Black Market Narrative???).

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy – Lost Contact #1
Rating: ★★★★☆
by Matt Sernaker

Official Synopsis: Caleb, Genesis, Jay-Den, Kyle, and Tarima are all students of Starfleet Academy, the illustrious school responsible for the Federation’s best. One day, they dream to serve as great leaders on board ships of their own, to study the cultural intricacies of sentient life amongst the Galaxy, or to go where no person has explored before. But today, their mission is simply to execute a survey simulation on a lifeless, low-oxygen planet. Or at least, it seems simple… until a huge storm cuts off their contact with their teachers aboard the Athena… and something impossible appears: an alien. Now, they’ll have to work together and use everything they’ve learned in class about first contact to make it off the planet alive!

Review: For those of us who were saddened by the recent announcement about the abbreviated run for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy on the small screen, this is a welcome addition to the story. IDW’s Star Trek books have been nothing but quality reading experiences, and I’m pleased to say that this gets added to that already impressive list. The series translates extremely well to comics, and maybe this is a way for us to continue with the cadets’ adventures after the second season completes? Just saying. I’m in for more, and hopefully you’ll grab your comm badge and join in as well.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
