Comic Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures Compendium Volume 2

by Matt Sernaker, Editor-In-Chief

TURTLE POWER! Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo return for more classic 80s and 90s adventures with the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures Compendium Volume 2, now available from IDW Publishing.

Every comic can be someone’s first comic, and this one was mine. One of my core memories was using my own money to buy my first comic, which was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures #34. This wasn’t a key issue in the world of comics, but it introduced me to a new world with my favorite heroes that went beyond their animated and live-action adventures. From that issue on, I was hooked. While this collection features issues taking place right before that particular installment (I can’t wait for Compendium Volume 3), it does highlight a plethora of ridiculous mutant side characters that we saw in toy form.

Compendium Volume 2 features Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures #18-#26, as well as spin-off mini-series Mighty Mutanimals and April O’Neil: The May East Saga, and a handful of specials from the various Archie Comics era. To no surprise, the team at IDW Publishing has once again done an absolutely amazing job putting this release together, further reinforcing their status as one of the top publishers when it comes to collected editions. I was utterly impressed with Compendium Volume 1, and when you get this in your hands, you’ll see exactly what I mean. This is one of those books that looks amazing on your shelf, but the quality of the interior pages and formatting is phenomenal as well. Considering the impact that this series had on my life, it means the world to me to have such a beautiful deluxe-style collection for this series, and I have no doubt that future releases will follow suit.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
