DVD Review: Wanted (Two Disc Special Edition)

I didn’t know that God was really that vengeful. I’m sure that everyone would be surprised to find out that God headed up a group of assassins. Ok, not really God but Morgan Freeman, who has played God on occasion. He is the head of an organization of assassins in the movie Wanted. It came out during the summer, and was based on a limited series comic book by Mark Millar, but since you are on ComicsOnline, I shouldn’t have to tell you that. Now, Wanted (Two Disc Special Edition) is out on DVD.

Wanted is about Wesley, a regular guy who hates his job. His girlfriend is cheating on him, and his best friend is an asshole. His life changes when he finds out that he is the son of the world’s best assassin, who has been killed. He gets recruited by “the Fraternity”, an organization of assassins to take down the rogue assassin who has killed his father. Can he do it?

Wanted (Two Disc Special Edition) has a wealth of special features. To start with it has a digital download of the film. There is a making of documentary, a feature on the cast and characters, a featurette on the train stunts, and a featurette on the special effects of the film. It also has a feature on the visual effects. There is a feature that discusses the path from graphic novel to film, and even one that is an animated version of portions of the graphic novel itself. They have a feature on the director’s vision for the film. Lastly they have a music video for the main song of the film, and a making of for the video game. The bonus features disc even has codes for the video game after certain features, and Easter eggs all over the menu. The only thing it’s missing is a commentary track on the film.

I really liked Wanted. It was bloody great fun, and it was bloody in parts. The cast enhanced the film through the quality of acting. The lead, James MacAvoy was the perfect choice for the Wesley, and Morgan Freeman was great as the Head of “the Fraternity”. There were a few moments which laced but overall it was a good film. The car chase, and fight sequences were awesome to watch. It seemed as if some of the fight sequences were sword fights, but instead with guns. I recommend this to anyone who likes action movies, the original graphic novel (Wanted), or Angelina Jolie.
