DVD Review: Prison Break Season 4

Michael, Linc, and the Gang are back for one last season of action, adventure, surprises and breaking out of prisons in Season 4 of Prison Break. Following the end of Season 3 in which Michael escapes from prison in Panama, the old gang is rounded up by the US Government and given a new opportunity for freedom. Now, they must work with Agent Don Self to stop the mysterious "Company" that framed Linc in the first season. We know that Michael can break out of prisons, but can he break IN to a secure facility to gain all of the secrets of the Company? Well you can find out by watching all 22 episodes of the newly released Season 4 on DVD!

Season 4 of Prison break really was different than the prior seasons. Without giving away everything, the season itself can really be split into 3 acts:

Act 1: Season 4 picks up with Michael setting off on his own to avenge the murder of his murdered girlfriend, Sara Tancretti…and as usual, things don't go exactly as planned. Michael, Linc, Sucre, Bellick, Mahone, and the rest are rounded up by Agent Self and are offered a deal if they can break into the Company's hidden facility and steal a hard drive named Scylla. Michael soon learns that this will be harder than it would seem. As if this new task wasn't difficult enough, Michael soon learns that Sara was NOT killed last season, and that she is still alive! Yay! Everyone can rejoice that the really horrible death of a beloved character has been retconed! Michael and Sara are reunited but they have to deal with the woman responsible for Sara's "death", the General's operative known as Gretchen. Using the Bird Book that Whistler had last season, Michael and the guy hatch the plan to steal Scylla and actually succeed…only to be double crossed…by the last person they expected: AGENT SELF!

Act 2: After the double cross, Michael finds himself trapped in a new deadly situation; he not only has to relocate the missing Scylla, but he must escape from the General and expose the Company once and for all. But it turns out that there are several parties who want Scylla, and one of those people turns out to be Michael's dead mother, who as you can guess, is not so dead. DUN DUN DUN.

Act 3: The final act begins and Michael's mother seems to have large plans for the newly acquired Scylla. Well it turns out the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and now the boys and the General team up to take their mother down before she can play out her world changing scheme! Expect crazy surprises, special appearances, and more in the beginning of the end of Prison Break!

Overall
It was nice to see this show take a new direction while still maintaining the essence of what made it entertaining in the first place. Season One was pretty ground breaking but Seasons Two and Three got away from the level of detail that the original did. This season you got to see Michael at work and it was definitely entertaining to watch. Please keep in mind that this is not the end of Prison Break, as the Direct to DVD Movie Prison Break: The Final Break is released next month. Make sure you check out this season and the amazing final episode.

ComicsOnline gives Season 4 of Prison Break 4 out of 5 great ways to go.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
