DVD Review: The FINAL Destination

What if you could see the future? What if you could predict accidents and disasters? What if you could cheat death? Would you want to? Or will death come to seek its revenge and kill you in the most horrific way possible? This is the major plot point of the Final Destination series of films. The people who get to be lucky enough to survive soon come to find out that death is a vengeful force, and if you skip your time you will pay for it. The movies were innovative and fun to watch originally and the deaths proved to be awesome. But after a few films the deaths became gruesome and hackneyed. There are only so many ways to kill someone, especially if a supernatural force is involved. But the producers have forged ahead, and given us the fourth and possibly final installment of the seriesThe Final Destination.

The Final Destination is the fourth and final film in the Final Destination horror series. This specific installment deals with the four friends and a small group that narrowly avoided dies in the most ludicrous accident at a NASCAR style event. Each survivor dies in the most gruesome way possible one by one, and if we’re lucky a second time. Oh, and it’s in 3-D!

The DVD for The Final Destination has additional scenes for the special features. It also comes with the 2-D version, in case the audience is not up to watching a horror film in 3-D. Each dimension is on one side of the disc, but the special features are only on one side. I’d have liked to see some more features, but since it is a horror film, what can you do?

The Final Destination seems to be a rather pointless movie in a series of films that ran out of steam after the first two films in the franchise. The movie is a rehash of the same idea in the films of the series. What if you happened to cheat death, and then he came after you? The deaths are no longer interesting or innovative. The original accident is completely ludicrous in its design, an accident at a motor speedway where it all ends up in the audience, then the grandstand collapses on the unwitting race fans. The best part of the movie is the opening credits, where they rehash all of the deaths in the series previous to the credits as if they were x-rays on film.

ComicsOnline gives The Final Destination 3 tires to the head out of 5.
