Exciting news, 'Whendonites'!  Joss Whedon, creator of sci-fi gems Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse and Firefly – along with the 2005 follow-up movie Serenity – will be directing Marvel Studios' The Avengers, currently slated for theatrical release in spring 2012.
