Manga Review: Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Adventures Volume 6

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Volume 6 kicks off right after the Battle for Mount Coronet that finished up in the previous volume. With Cyrus defeated and Team Galactic seemingly out of the way what new adventures await for the wild boy Hareta and the former Galactic Commander Mitsumi? How will their adventures continue now? What strange and wonderful pokemon will they meet with?

Highlights

Following the battle between Palkia and Dialga atop Mount Coronet, peace has settled in Sinnoh. A new tournament is starting to see who will be the new top trainer will be. Involved in this tournament is Hareta, Jun, and Mitsumi; along with the previous Champion Cynthia and the disco loving Flint of the Sinnoh's Elite Four. The initial fight between Mitsumi and Cynthia is a well fought battle with a surprise finish that you won't see coming. It is also during the battle between Mitsumi's Electirive and Cynthia's Lucario that we are introduced to a strange boy named Koya. Koya is not impressed with Hareta's behavior and leaves Hareta with a few choice words. Koya is then put up against Jun in the tournament.

With Koya's fight with Jun, we are shown that Koya doesn't have fun with his battles and doesn't seem to have any connection with his team. He is upset with Jun and finishes the battle with a few choice words. The next fight is with Hareta and Flint, who makes a glorious and all-be-it funny entrance. In this fight we see more of Hareta's battling style and a decent ending to the fight sees Hareta moving on. Following the battle and a reunion with Professor Rowan, Hareta has another match, but the plot shows that there is something more to Koya than we were originally shown.

As Mitsumi confronts Koya, she is forced from continuing due to the Semi-Finals starting and the battle between Koya and Hareta begin! Their fight is the best in the volume, their strengths matching with each other. We are even shown just how Koya became the way he is. Sadly, their fight isn't meant to finish with the return of an old foe. As well as the reunion of man from Hareta's past who leaves a pokemon egg with Hareta as he is chased off bythe International Police Agent Hansom. The final scene is a touching one after the tournament involving Mitsumi and Cynthia. We are shown a scene between Rowan and Mitsumi from when she was a Team Galactic Commander where Mitsumi learns a lesson about Pokemon.

Overall

Ever since Pokemon came over to the United States, I've been a fan of the series. I've watched the much of the show, I've played every proper Pokemon game, and even read several of the Pokemon Special mangas and I feel that Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Adventure is a nice addition to the franchise. Even with this being a VizKids title, I feel that this would be a nice read for a fan of any age.

The art is very well drawn While the characters are drawn in decent style, but it the pokemon themselves that really show the attention to detail that shows the original artwork by the Ken Sugimori. What I mean to say is that the pokemon look as if they came right off the Pokemon Special manga.
