CC2010: Burn Notice Panel

The first day of Comic-Con has officially come and gone. The highlights of my day would definitely be the Burn Notice panel. Bruce Campbell, always hilarious, was the only star to make it to the panel, but hands-down, it was worth it. Along with writer/creator Matt Nix, writer/director and guest actor on Burn Notice Tim Matheson and writer Alfredo Barrios Jr., the panel was full of entertaining conversations, show secrets and funny joke cracking, mostly by Bruce.

Listening to the writers talk about creating scenes, characters and crazy situations was very entertaining. Nix seemed to enjoy coming up with so many different ideas for his own show, but Burn Notice tends to leak into his personal life in ways that make him think of situations the way Michael Weston would, or sometimes he would be faced with the question, "What would Fiona do?” He even confessed that it got to the point where he started reading "WARNING:" labels as instructions. The writing crew for Burn Notice seemed to be a tight-knit group, mostly growing up together, and that of course makes it easier to write excellent episodes.

The writers also enjoyed explaining to the audience how crazy and high-maintenance of a director Tim Matheson can be. Though Tim shoots great stunt scenes and is an overall great director, he doesn't like to listen to the producers, especially when they tell him he can't have a crane on top of another crane. Matt and Alfredo expressed their admiration for his directing their writing, but at the same time were somewhat peeved at how great his stubbornness can be. In the end, he gets the job done and everyone is satisfied.

Bruce Campbell was the highlight of the panel. In every other sentence, he was cracking a joke or telling a funny moment from being on the set with his fellow actors. He went on to do random things such as throwing shirts of himself into the audience and giving money to a random woman who called him a "sexy man".  Even if you don't watch Burn Notice, this panel would have been one of the best to attend because everyone participating had great personalities.
