Blu-ray Review: James Cameron’s Avatar 3-Disc Extended Collector’s Edition

I was born for this!

James Cameron doesn’t know how to do anything small and his previous successes as well as the new wrecking ball of cash that is Avatar have proven that.  Avatar was the highest grossing film of all time and as of this date, Avatar on Blu-ray is the highest selling Blu-ray of all time. While not 3D, 20th Century Fox brings us a sweet looking movie in this collection. The story of Jake Sully isn’t an original one, but I guarantee you’ll not find a better looking one.

Blu-ray Review: Metalocalypse: Season III: The Dead Man

Death, destruction, mayhem, and music. Those are the things most associated with the band Dethklok. Dethklok is the subject of an ancient Mesopotamian prophecy about the apocalypse, which has worried the government enough to create an organization, called The Tribunal, to prevent the oncoming apocalypse.  Dethklok is good at two things: playing Death Metal, and destroying everything. Only the metal is intentional, as playing music is the only real skill they have. Dethklok is basically a bunch of overgrown children. They can’t even run their own lives with success. This is why Charles Foster Ofdensen is hired; to manage the business end of things and keep their daily lives in order. Behind the scenes he seems to be manipulating events towards the apocalypse. Whether this is the case or not is yet to be seen….Welcome to Metalocalypse: Season III, which is now available on Blu-ray!

DVD Review: Iron Man- Extremis Motion Comic

The past few years have given birth to a new way of experiencing our favorite comic book series along with giving newcomers an easy window into experiencing comic book series: The Motion Comic. Not exactly fully animated (nor is it fully still), Motion Comics add flare and voice acting to existing comic book titles out there. Recently we’ve been seeing more and more of these pop up, especially as mini web series that various comic book companies put out in episodic bits. Watchmen, Astonishing X-Men and even Batman: Mad Love have all been adapted into this new format, and now it is Iron Man’s turn with Warren Ellis’s Extremis storyline, which is now available on DVD.

Blu-Ray Review: Splice

Man has always been wondering how the human body has worked since the beginning of time, and inevitably followed with how to take control of life itself. In the past 60 years technologies have been invented that have edged us ever closer to those goals.  In 1987 the Human Genome Project was created to map the nucleotides in a human haploid genome reference group. In 1997, scientists famously cloned a sheep named Dolly. In 2000, scientists cloned a rhesus monkey. In 2001, a bull was cloned. In 2003, the announcement was made that the Genome was mapped. In 2009, scientists cloned a camel. These days scientists are moving closer and closer to being able to clone, and/or genetically engineer a human. In Splice, we see a film about what just might happen in the case that we do make that final leap into cloning.

TV Review: Young Justice “Independence Day” Series Premiere

There comes a time in life where you must decide the type of person that you are going to become. For Robin, Speedy, Aqualad, and Kid Flash, the time to stand up and be acknowledged is at hand. For years these four have been recognized only as “sidekicks”, but now the Justice League has invited them to begin the process of joining the big leagues. When things don’t go exactly as planned on their big day, the sidekicks must decide whether or not to take matters into their own hands and use what they were taught to help others…even if the League disapproves. Welcome to the series premiere of Young Justice, the new series airing on Cartoon Network, created by Brandon Vietti (Batman: Under the Red Hood) and friend of ComicsOnline, Greg Weisman (Spectacular Spider-Man). So how does this series hold up in comparison to the abundance of DC Animated projects that we have grown to love?
