WonderCon 2011: Video Game Preview: Spider-Man: Edge of Time

Last year, Activision and Beenox brought us a interesting take on the spider man universe by showing us 4 different and unique takes on everyone’s favorite webslinging hero in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. This year the developers take a more refined look at two of the versions of Spidey they toyed with last year with both Spider-Man 2099 and Amazing Spider-Man returning in Spider-Man: Edge of Time.

Both come together to stop an evil that has traveled back in time and is changing Miguel O’Hara’s future… but he is powerless himself since he has no way to get himself to the past. He quickly finds a way to contact Peter Parker in present day and thus the two spidermen come up with a plan to infltrate the evil headquarters together to stop the corruption in both times.

While not exactly a sequel, Edge of Time borrows several gameplay elements from last year’s title but brings a new take on Spider-Man’s spidey sense power allowing the player to see a bunch of different outcomes depending on how you move.

A big focus in the game is how what happens in the present changes the future. During the game you will swap back and forth between both heroes in which you will continually assist your time shifted double. The enviroment will dynamically change while you play according to what happens in either timeline causing you to use all of Spidey’s agile moves to keep from ending up in a suddenly appearing acid pool.

During the game, both Spider-Men will converse with each other bringing much humor and entertainment while you play. It helps each are brought to life expertly by returning  talent Josh Keaton (The Spectacular Spider-Man) and Christopher Daniel Barnes (Spider-Man: The Animated Series) as Amazing and 2099. In order to really make use of the Spider-Man 2099 universe, Peter David who was the writer on the original Spider-Man 2099 comic series lends his writing talents to the game.

Look for Spider-Man: Edge of Time coming this fall to Xbox 360 and Playstation 3!
