Movie Review: Scooby Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold

by Matt Sernaker, Managing Editor

ZOINKS! Get ready for an old school team-up, because Scooby Doo and the Mystery Inc. gang are about to team up with Batman! When a mystery is too challenging for the Caped Crusader to solve on his own, he enlists the aid of the Mystery Analysts of Gotham City. With a little help from his elite team (and Aquaman), Batman and Scooby must uncover the truth behind the Crimson Cloak, and stop an army of Batman’s rogues. Scooby Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold is about a classic as it gets, and also provided the perfect platform for a full on Batman: TBATB movie length adventure.

You might think that the team-up premise for this release sounds somewhat familiar, and it should. This latest installment from Warner Home Video is absolutely a throwback in the same vein as The New Scooby Doo Movies, which featured Scooby and the Dynamic Duo teaming up to solve mysteries. From the opening title sequence to the big finale, every single second of this film is just loaded with fun that kids and adults are sure to enjoy. The balance between the Scooby story and incorporation of a significant number of Batman: TBATB characters was extremely impressive, and the story did justice to the titular heroes.
Scooby Doo! & Batman TBATB features a stellar voice cast including Frank Welker (Fred/Scooby), Grey Griffin (Daphne/Black Canary), Kate Micucci (Velma), Diedrich Bader (Batman), John DiMaggio (Aquaman/Crimson Cloak), Tom Kenny (Plastic Man/Penguin), Tara Strong (Poison Ivy/Harley Quinn), Jeff Bennet (The Joker), Fred Tatasciore (Harvey Bullock), and Jeffrey Combs (The Question). Everyone brought their A-Game for this old school adventure, but some of the best team-ups included Batman and Scooby, Fred and Black Canary, and Shaggy with The Martian Manhunter. While all of these were great, the my favorite by far was Scooby Doo and Aquaman. If we don’t get a “Scooba-Doo” Movie (you can even have that title WHV) featuring a stand alone team up adventure, it would truly be a missed opportunity.
Special Features
If the newest team-up wasn’t enough for you, the WHV team has included two vintage cartoons: “The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair” and “The Caped Crusader Caper”.
Scooby Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold was the best possible way to spend a Saturday. I had a smile on my face for the entire 75 minute run time and couldn’t have been more pleased with how strong this release turned out to be. If you are looking for a feel good action adventure movie to watch with the whole family, this should be added to the top of your list.
