Comic Book Review: The Vigil #4

by Tony Rhea, Reporter

Boy do I love my meat and potatoes, and I’m not talking about the kind you throw into the crockpot. The Vigil #4 has arrived, and it comes with a major revelation…

Official Description:

/Who are the Vigil?/
/Dodge file loading…
Dodge is the speedster metahuman in the secret organization called the Vigil. Her alias is likely to be a woman who goes by the name Dinah Kom. All files connected to this name have been erased. The only information left that was pieced together by Checkmate is that Dodge has a condition that places an extraordinary amount of fast-twitch muscle fiber in her body. Her suit allows her to control the fibers to move at the speed of thought. The multiversal and space-time repercussions of this are to be discussed in the next transmission.

This week focuses on Dodge, as we learn how she came to work with the Doctor. We get her backstory before we join the team raiding the LexCorp biodome. Inside, danger awaits, and so does potentially dangerous knowledge. Secrets are revealed, but can the team survive the truth, let alone a frightening new enemy? On top of that, what exactly is Harmonia?

The story that Ram V is crafting is incredibly compelling, and I’m enjoying the slow burn. These past issues have placed major importance on the backstory of the team, and yet we haven’t learned much of anything about what brings them together. This week has changed that a bit, and the reveal at the end of the issue has upped the hype for the upcoming issues.

The story isn’t the only thing on point, as Devmalya Pramanik artistically delivers on dynamic action and fantastic close-up work. The fights are fantastic, the enemies malicious, and the powers on display are exciting and gorgeous.

This issue of The Vigil, as well as this series, is a standout for DC that should not be missed. It is easily the series that I am the most excited about right now.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
