Comic Review: Captain Marvel: Dark Tempest #3

by Christal Kennedy, Reporter

Official Description:
INTRODUCING THE FERAL FIVE! The villainous duet of NADA and NITRO are out to make a choir – by recruiting Captain Marvel’s furious teenage charges! Gifted with incredible dark powers, the Feral Five – siblings Zen, Zane and Zaka, and their intrepid leaders Keziah and Blake – are suddenly finding Nada’s world-ending visions a lot more appealing than Carol Danvers’ goody-two-shoes hero style. Trapped on an alien planet with the man who killed her namesake and besieged by the very people she came to help, has Carol Danvers finally met her match?

Faced with holding out and waiting for Captain Marvel to come back to them or take Nada up on her offer to imbue them with powers Keziah, Blake and the anger filled teens are left with the choice on how best to survive being stuck on a toxic alien planet.  While the idea of having powers that will not only help them survive but would fulfill their wildest dreams is very appealing to most of the group, Zen isn’t so easily won over.  Will she hold out or cave to her siblings’ pleas of sticking together?

And where is Carol during all of this action?  Stuck in Nadas’ pocket portal battling with a half human/half machine to find a way to escape.  Escaping is shaping up to be the easiest crisis Carol has to deal with because the Feral Five are no longer in a hurry to get back to Earth, in fact they seem very content to stay where they are.

Nocenti is gearing Captain Marvel up to have an epic showdown with Nada and Nitro.  Add in needing to find a way to cure the Feral Five and there is a lot of anticipated action left to come in the last two installments of the Dark Tempest story arc.  Ann and her team of amazing artists have left us on the edge of our seats wondering if Captain Marvel has what it takes to prevent the Earth from being knocked into a new stone age.
