DVD Review: South Park Season 12

You should come on down to South Park and meet some friends of mine.

The 12th Season of South Park has just made it''s way to DVD as well as Blu-ray for the first time! The boys were pretty busy this season: saving the world from giant guinea pigs, starring in their own musical adventure (a la High School Musical), dealing with a Presidential plot, and dealing with the loss of their internet connection.

Highlights:
"Britney''s New Look"- Britney Spears comes to South Park but ends up shooting herself in the face so that she could end the constant stream of media attention. Well her plan backfires and she gains even more popularity with her new "look".

"Eek, a P****!"- Mrs Garrison decides that she is done being a woman and wants to go through surgery again to regain what she lost…

"Over Logging"- What will happen the day that our worst fear is realized? What will we do on the day that the internet dies? That''s something that hopefully we will never have to deal with…but this episode handles beautifully.

"Pandemic" Parts 1 and 2- When Peruvian pan flute bands start popping up all over the world something had to be done to stop this pandemic from spreading. The Peruvians are gathered up and relocated so that they can be contained. But what is the reason for this new emerging threat? And what even larger threat can be looming over our heroes? And what role will Craig play in stopping evil? Watch this season''s 2-part episode to find out!

"About Last Night…"- Obama and McCain team up to pull off a heist so big it could only happen while one of them was in Office. Can they, along with their specialized team pull off this Ocean''s 11 style plan?

"Elementary School Musical"- High School Musical has become the main fad at South Park Elementary and everyone wants in…except for the 4 boys. Although they refuse to take a part in the constant singing, they soon realize that they might have to play along or else they will become outcasts.

"The Ungroundable"- Butters believe that Vampires are among the children at South Park Elementary. Thanks to the release of Twilight the Vampire trend is in…and now the Goth kids must take action since people are identifying them as Vampires…

Other episodes include:
"Major Boobage"
"Canada on Strike!"
"Super Fun Time"
"The China Probrem"
"Breast Cancer Show Ever"
"Tonsil Trouble"

Special Features

-Six Days to South Park: A Day-By-Day Making of South Park Featurette

-Making Boobage: Behind the Scenes of "Major Boobage"

-Behind the Scenes: "About Last Night"

-Mini Commentaries by Trey Parker and Matt Stone

Overall

Overall this season had some great moments and felt more consistent from episode to episode than the previous season. The "Pandemic" 2-part episode and "Over Logging" definitely stand out as the best of the season. The "Six Days to South Park" Featurette was the best of the features included on this set and is definitely worth watching if you are a fan of the series.

ComicsOnline gives South Park Season Twelve 4.5 out of 5 Pan Flute players.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
