DVD Review: Project Blue Earth S.O.S: The Complete Series

“No one can escape the judgment of the Imfabels”

In 1995 ace pilot James is testing a new type of fighter plane powered by G-Reaction engines, when all of a sudden a rainbow lights envelops it and then the plane disappears, and the story begins. This series takes place in the year 2000, the setting is the typical 50s era Si-Fi. In the beginning G-Reaction powered machines are disappearing, and on the day of of the the lunch of a new G-Reaction powered train, the train disappears in front of everyone, from there every thing goes down hill. Now two teenage geniuses, Penny Carter and Billy Kimura, find out that the Baguan Aliens are responsible for the disappearances of the machines and are trying to take over the world. The two boys teem up with Captain Clayton, along with the thought to be dead, Ace pilot James, Dr. Brest, the leader of the Labyrinth Alliance to try and save the world.

Highlights
As I mentioned earlier, that the setting is the typical 50s era Si-Fi, and even though they have cars that levitate, jet packs and space ships; they use the same style of cameras, tape recorders, radios and dress the same as they did in the actual 50s. There is a little computer use along with a wireless devises (like telephones, microphones, etc.). Even though the human technology is appears advanced it does not compare to todays level of advancement. The Baguan Aliens technology is far more advanced than any thing the humans have, they have ray guns that can disintegrate a man with one shot. Their main source of transportation are flying saucers, called Helmet Worms and several other wonderful transports. The Baguan Aliens use their technology advances to reanimated the bodies of their dead victims to make fearless terrorist bombers. They are also able to send the earth in to a second Ice-age and turn thousands of people in to Radio Zombies with the popular radio show “The Buckey Show”. “The Buckey Show, is here to stay, long live the Baguan Aliens!”, is the chant of the Radio Zombies.

Over view
The contrast of the 50s and the future gives the viewers of Project Blue Earth S.O.S. a true sense of understanding for the post World War II generation along with the feeling of wonder for the future, unlike a films set only in the future or films set only in the past. It brought back memories of the old Buck Roger and Flash Gordon serials of the 40’s and 50’. I enjoyed seeing the old and the new together, but I think that some of the devices used could have been a bit more modern. Project Blue Earth S.O.S has action, adventure, romance and tragedy, every key component of a good series raped up in the future and the past, kind of like a burrito. The action/adventure part of the series is obvious, aliens attack they try to save the Earth. All of the romances is also fairly obvious, although I did get some great dating tips from Captain Clayton, “Women are like kittens, if you yell at them they run away, so you let them sniff your hand and then you pet them.”, well you know what I mean. The tragedies are the deaths of a few major characters that gave their all for their world. With all of those components this Anime is one nobody will want to miss and would be a great addition to any anime collection.
