DVD Review: Gad Guard: The Complete Series

“A three sided war has begun, and it’s all centered around a kid named Hajiki.”

Hajiki is a 16 year old boy, who lives in the run down streets of Night Town and makes his money as a delivery boy. On one of Hajiki deliveries he runs in to a little trouble, desperately trying to save the package, Hajiki jumps in front of a car to save it. Turns out the package was a Gad, and Hajiki turned it into a Techode, witch he named Lighting. Techodes are large human looking robots that come from Gads. Hajiki may not know it yet, but there are others with with Techodes, some of them are good and some are bad. Can Hajiki figure out who is good or bad? Can he also deiced whether he is good or bad? There is only one way to find out.

Highlights
At first Hajiki just used his Techode for doing jobs and earning money, but then a guy named Katana got in the way. Katana is a Heavy Metal operator who worked for anyone that can pay the right price, because he was the best Heave Metal operator until Hajiki and his Techode proved him other wise. Heavy Metals are any large mechanical device witch are illegal including Techodes. Since Hajiki trashed Katanas first Heavy Metal he got a Techode named Zero. Because of Hajikis work hard, make do and be nice way of thinking and Katanas be the best and get rid of any one who is a problem way of thinking, they become rivals. Since Hajiki is always being attacked by Katana, the polices are trying to arrest him because of his Techode and some bad guys just want him gone, Hajiki just runs away but he calls it “moving forward” .

Gads are stone like things, they can transform into Techodes or A-techodes. Techodes are made when someone has an overwhelming thought picks up a Gad, then that gad takes the form of that thought. A-Techodes are made when the the person who uses the Gad is full of greed, A-techodes are monsters that only destroy.

As I said earlier, Hajiki lives in Night Town. Night Town is one of three major towns in Unit Blue. The other two towns are Day Town a wealthier town than Night Town and then there is Gold Town the town that has 90% of the wealth in Unit Blue. Units are like countries, and even though units are very big, an entire unit can be destroyed by a A-Techodes.

Overview
This a pretty good anime, it has a good story line with deep characters. In the middle of the series it gets confusing, there is just so much going on at once and more keeps getting added with nothing resolved. all of the stuff that happens may be confusing but it keeps you watching and wanting more. Also after it starts to stop get confusing the story line seams to switch from trying to defeat Katana to trying to go to space. The change of pace is a bit frustrating because it goes from fast action to slow pace, altho I do like how with the change of pace you get more in touch with Hajiki, Katana and the other chatters. The Techodes remind me of Gundam mechs. Unlike Gundams and other mechs, Techodes are robots that are controlled externally by the users thoughts.

ComicsOnline gives Gad Guard: the complete series 4 out of 5 Techodes.
