DVD Review: Kyo Kara Maoh! The Complete Season Set, Season 1

“It’s time to party hardy!”

Yuri Shibuya is just a 15 year old boy, in hight school, likes baseball and he’s not to very good with girls, but that will all change. Yuri is minding his one business, when he spots one of his his old class mates getting picked on and Yuri takes action. After Yuri’s friend runs away the bullies decide to pick on him by giving him a swirly. It was no ordinary swirly, it flushed him in to another world “I must be the first person to be flushed down the toilet” . the other world is very different, it’s a through-back to medieval times with knights and castles. At first Yuri couldn’t believe it, he thought he was in at a festival or something, but he was wrong. After a while he finds out that he is the King of the Great Demon Country. People from the Demon Tribe and the humans hate each other and are on the brink of all out war. If Yuri wants to stop this war from happing he will half to look in side and find his true power.

Highlights
Demon Tribe men don’t look different form humans, but some of them have magic powers like the ability to cast fire or control water. Demon Tribe powers usually do not work in the human country, but Yuri can go into a super mode and use incredible power anywhere. Humans may not have magic powers but they can use special stones that are just as effective, plus these stones can hurt people from the Demon Tribe who have magic powers.

The other world is very different from Earth. the animals are very different, dragons go meow and cats go baa. The noises the animals aren’t the only thing that is different, pandas aren't endangered plus they dig in sand and sharks are vegetarian. The animals are freaky but the customs are freakier, if you pickup a blade of any kind even a butter knife you have excepted a duel and a slap on the left cheek is a marriage proposal.

Overall
I think this series is amazing, it’s a great action series that is balanced with comedy relief. In most anime the beginning of the series is more light hearted and comical in the beginning, but even with the the hight intense action, they still make time for the humor, which is nice. There are a lot of cute animals in this series, even the most horrible beasts can be cute, which can be quite funny and enjoyable. I think this series is great for almost everyone and is a very likable.

Extras
The features on this 39 episode set include, English dolby digital 20, Japanese dolby digital 20, 19X6 anamorphic widescreen, English subtitles, scene access, textless opening, promo trailer, conceptual art, image gallery, memory slide show and previews.

All in all, this is well worth the effort and would be a plus to all Anime Fan’s collection.
