Manga Review: Claymore Volume 15

Claymore

is about a medieval fantasy world where humanity has been living under the fear of a vicious band of demons called Yoma and the only thing standing between life and death are the Claymores. A group of soldiers, named after the weapon they use, who are half yoma, and are able to use that boosted strength to fight against the monsters that plague humanity at the risk of turning into monsters.

Highlights
This volume begins in the middle of the fight started in volume 14 and is a great way to remind us just how strong these women are.  After appearing, Clare and her group ascertain the nature of the Awakened Claymore and discover the way to defeat her. With the Awakened defeated, the Claymore Miria announces that her group plans on taking down the Organization. With further explanation we learn about a connection between the Yoma, Awakened Beings, and even the Claymores themselves.

Clare finds information on Raki who she had traveled with seven years ago and finds that he is in the area, so she goes to look for him. Raki has been traveling with Pricilla and has returned to his home village to find that it is under attack by a Yoma, and there he meets up with Claymore # 6 Renee. After getting no information on the location of Clare and being warned about Pricilla, they leave Renee who is then captured by a powerful Awakened Being that can hide her Yoki (It’s like their Aura).

The volume ends with Clare, Cynthia, and Uma heading west looking for Raki. They come across a town with several Claymores and an Awakened Being. Uma makes short work knocking out the Claymores and then makes short work of the Awakened Being. The encounter raises an odd question: why would the Claymores be taking suppression pills? They are then surprised to find that Rubel has been waiting there and he will be more than willing to explain all they need to know.

Overall
I have got to say, this is the first time I read this series, and I still enjoyed reading this. The art was great and the story seems nice as well. I really liked the different designs for all the Awakened Beings. My only real problem was that all the Claymores that were with Clare looked like clones of each other. The only real difference between them was their different hair styles. But aside from that one little problem, this is definitely making me want to go back to the beginning and catch up on the whole thing.

ComicsOnline gives Claymore Volume 15 5 out of 5 claymores.
