Manga Review: One Piece, Volume 29

As the Kami Eneru’s survival game continues, the number of participants dwindles, not even 20 remain. The last few are are located within the Challenge of Iron. The Challenge of Iron is under the control of The Sky Breeder, Ohm, the last remaining Vessel. Ohm specializes in the use of Iron clouds, which are clouds with the strength of iron but  which are still as flexible as normal clouds. Along with Ohm, there is also his specially bred sky dog that is the size of  a bus, and together they make an almost unstoppable team. The ominous Challenge of Iron has a whopping 0% survival rate, but with a challenger like Zolo, Chopper and Wyper, the leader of the Shandians army, the survival rate might just be shattered.

While Zolo and Chopper are fighting Ohm and his massive dog, Luffy has his own problems to deal with. While Luffy is looking for all the gold, he comes across a “cave”. This “cave” isn’t what it appears to be, it is really a giant sky snake. Of course, Luffy doesn’t realize that it is a snake, even as his shirt is slowly being digested. So looking for a quick way out, Luffy starts trying to punch his way out. In severe pain, the snake starts to flail around wildly, and during its wild rampage, it ends up in the midst of the Challenge of Iron. Obviously this is just one more complication in the survival game.

Overall

From the beginning of the Skypiea arc, Kami Eneru was shown to be a very powerful man, almost a god. This power was briefly demonstrated in previous volumes, like when Eneru would shoot a blast of energy from the sky or when a Shandians threw a spear through Kami’s head. Waiting for Kami Eneru to finally show his power was almost painful. Finally, in this volume Eneru's power emerges when he takes on the people who survived the survival game.  Although this power wasn’t the power of a god, it was the power of the Zap Zap Fruit, the one demon fruit that is believed to be unbeatable.

Even though I originally preferred the beginning of the Skypiea arc, this volume completely changed my opinion. Some of the things that made this volume so great were that it is a very action packed volume, there’s never a dull moment. Also it kept me on the edge of my seat, because while I was reading it, I never quite knew what was going to happen next. This is yet another masterpiece in the One Piece story, and this might be the best volume of the Skypiea ark yet.
