Blu-ray Review: IMAX-Under The Sea

Warner Brothers has just released their beautiful IMAX 3D project called Under The Sea on Blu-ray!

This stunning film is features a in-depth look at the underwater life of Papua New Guinea, Southern Australia, The Great Barrier Reef and Indonesia. Narrated by Jim Carrey, the viewer is taken on a close and personal tour of sea creatures big and small.

Now honestly, I have to admit that I can't really remember the last time I went to see an IMAX documentary. So when I put this disc into my Blu-ray player, I was met with quite a surprise. IMAX 3D technology was used to capture these beautiful locations in bright and vivid colors. At first glance, it is hard to believe that the video before you isn't computer generated. While the movie is your standard documentary film, it is the quality of the visuals that make it worth watching. The audio quality is also pretty astounding; you really feel like you are swimming next to the creatures since you can hear in clear detail every movement as the creatures go right past the camera.

If you ever wondered what it would be like to have Jim Carrey tell a story, then you will be pleasantly surprised by his style of narration. This is not the loud and goofy Jim Carrey that we have come to know and love, but a more reserved and factual guide to this mystical underwater world (he still makes a few jokes, but they are not his typical style).

Overall:
If you haven't been to an IMAX movie in a while, you might want to add that to your list of things to do. This film was only 40 minutes, which felt like just the right length to keep the audience's interest. Theaters really do push the "IMAX Experience" and after seeing this on Blu-ray, I would be really interested to see what it would have been like in an IMAX theater environment as well.

ComicsOnline gives IMAX: Under The Sea 4 out of 5 creatures that would be helpful to Aquaman.
