Blu-ray Review: The Big Bang Theory- The Complete Third Season

"I spent 3 months at the North Pole for nothing! And I didn't even get to go to Comic-Con!!!"

Geeks Unite! The Big Bang Theory- The Complete Third Season is now available on Blu-ray! Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, Howard, and Penny are back for more antics and this time they've brought along a few new guest stars!

Episode Highlights:

"The Electric Can Opener Fluctuation": The gang return from their North Pole excursion and Penny makes an important decision about her relationship with Leonard. Howard and Raj also come clean about the events that happened while at the North Pole. This was a great premiere episode and added a few great game changing moments that help the show get away from the "will they, won't they" issues that were the driving story of the first two seasons.

"The Adhesive Duck Deficiency": When Penny slips in her shower and injures herself she must turn to an unlikely person for help: Sheldon! Now he must help get Penny dressed and drive her to the hospital and overcome the fact that he hasn't even driven a real car before. Meanwhile, Raj, Leonard, and Howard embark on a camping trip and end up having a totally different kind of trip when they are offered "magic" cookies. This episode is full of fantastic moments but the highlight really comes from Kaley Cuoco playing a very drugged up Penny following her trip to the emergency room.

"The Einstein Approximation": Sheldon hits a wall with trying to solve a mathematical equation and seeks out alternate ways to answer his problem. He decides that since Einstein came up with the Theory of Relativity while working in a Post Office, he too will get a menial job to help facilitate his search for an answer. After failing at the job search, he decides to start working at the Cheesecake Factory, but is never actually hired.

"The Wheaton Recurrence": Sheldon's Arch-Nemesis Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation) returns! After failing to defeat Wil at a trading card game, Sheldon attempts to get revenge during a bowling tournament against the Comic Book store staff. Meanwhile, Penny and Leonard hit a snag in their relationship when Penny drops big "L" word and Leonard fails to respond properly. Things get even more challenging when Wil Wheaton gets involved and intentionally drives the two apart only to cause the gang to lose at bowling and further infuriate Sheldon.

Overall:
This season of The Big Bang Theory really had its ups and downs. I really enjoyed the previous two seasons, but I felt that something was missing from this season. Sure the humor was there, but taking away the "will they, wont they" concept didn't really help the development of the show in the way that the writers were hoping. This was corrected later in the season but it felt like we had to take 2 steps forward and 3 steps back to get to this current point. That being said, there are many great moments during the season and the appearances by Wil Wheaton and Katee Sackhoff definitely added to the overall quality of the show. BBT regained its momentum by the second half of the season which helped to solidify its place for the current 2010 season.
