Blu-ray Review: The Matrix: Reloaded

I am a leaf on the… WAAAALT!

As the groundbreaking 1999 film The Matrix drew to a close…

…Neo had jumped into Agent Smith's Body and exploded him, then flamebaited the human-harvesting robo-squid internets before he showed them he got root by rewriting his move type and flying away into the credits like Cyborg Superman (only, you know, not evil).

The Matrix: Reloaded picks up not long after the first movie left off, with the crew of the Nebucadnezzar: Keanu Reeves (A Scanner Darkly, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee) as Neo, Laurence Fishburne (Event Horizon, Fantastic Four 2) as Morpheus, Carrie-Anne Moss (Memento, Mass Effect 2) as Trinity, and Harold Perrineau (Lost, 30 Days of Night: Dark Days) as Link–on their continuing mission to free humans from The Matrix. Naturally they run into a few problems, perhaps the most memorable of which is that Agent Smith is now virally reproducing himself so he can now get his butt kicked by Neo by the thousands. Danger, wirework martial arts and bullet time are ubiquitous of course, making this a fitting sequel to the first movie, but with the addition of not only the Oracle, but the Architect, this movie challenges those of us to reach every corner of our vocabularies in between action sequences. Ergo, some of The Architect's dialogue you may understand, and some of it you may not. Concordantly, while your first reaction to the first Matrix sequel may be the most emotional, you may or may not realize it is also the most irrelevant, 'cause this merde grows on you like wiping with silk: it might be a little gross if you overanalyze it, or it could just be a decadent pleasure.

Forget what you heard people saying about how they didn't like the sequels and just watch it for what is: a thrilling action movie with some fun twists and more than a little bit of highbrow monologuing and buddhist philosophy thrown in for good measure as a little bit for your brain to chew on while your face gnaws popcorn with delight through the fights.
