Blu-ray Review: The A-Team

“I love it when a plan comes together!”

Imprisoned for a crime that they did not commit, an A-Team lead by Captain Hannibal Smith must set out to clear their names. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire: The A-Team! The hit 2010 Action film is now available for you to own on Blu-ray!

This film serves as an origin story to the A-Team and reveals how this eccentric group of individuals came together. Lead by Hannibal Smith, the team learns of a plot by Iraqi Insurgents to use stolen US Treasury plates to duplicate US Currency. Under the direction of General Morrison (and at the behest of Captain Sosa), the team sets out to locate and recover the plates. After they are successful, the men return to the military base only to see General Morrison murdered in a car explosion and find that the plates stolen by Black Forest (a private military group led by Brock Pike). The A-Team is sentenced to prison for 10 years and are forced to serve our their sentences in 4 different maximum security facilities. Hannibal proves once again that he has a plan for everything and, with a little help from CIA Agent Lynch, breaks his team out from their incarcerations. Now the team must find a way to recover the currency plates, stop Pike, and clear their names to regain their titles.

The A-Team features an amazing cast, including Liam Neeson (Taken) as Hannibal SmithBradley Cooper (The Hangover) as FaceQuinton “Rampage” Jackson (UFC Star) as BA Baracus, Sharlto Copley (District 9) as Murdock, Jessica Biel (Blade Trinity) as Captain Charissa Sosa, Brian Bloom (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths) as Brock Pike, and Patrick Wilson (Watchmen) as Agent Lynch. The casting couldn’t have been more perfect for this movie. As far as the main team: Neeson exceeds all expectations in the role of Hannibal, Cooper demonstrates wit and charm in the role of Face, Jackson steps flawlessly into the role of Baracus, and Copley rounds out the team and brings a new level of insanity to Murdock. Wilson seems to channel Ryan Reynolds in his portrayal of Agent Lynch (not necessarily a bad thing, just worth not
ing) and Jessica Biel steps up and does a great job in her role as Captain Sousa (but she will always be Mary Camden to me).

When recreating a classic TV series into a movie, the creative team has to acknowledge the history of the characters or you will inevitably alienate a generation of TV/Movie watchers. In the case of the A-Team, they were able to recruit Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz who played Face and Murdock on the original show in cameo roles for the film (Mr T however declined to appear due to his belief that the film focused too heavily on sex and violence).

Overall:
The movie revolves around a group of people that specialize in the ridiculous, and Director Joe Carnahan really plays this point up. All of the plans that the A-Team come up with are extremely entertaining and fun to watch time after time.
You can tell that the creative team with this movie really had a lot of fun with the stunts. There is no question that this is the A-Team.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
