Comic Review: Millennium #1

Millenium01_cvr-659x1000[1]

That’s right!  Following the successful comic book spin-off the X-Files, we have Millennium.  Joe Harris (X-Files) also writes the series, and the book features fan favorite FBI Agent Fox Mulder.  For those not familiar with Millennium, the show ran for three seasons from 1996 to 1999. The story focused on Frank Black, a former FBI Agent who had mental powers that allowed him to see through the eyes of others.  His gift allowed him to track down killers.  As you can guess, Millennium and the X-Files would sometimes crossover on TV, and now that tradition continues in the comics.

As a fan of Joe Harris’ writing on Great Pacific, I knew I had to check out the X-Files comic book spin-off when it came out.  When I heard Harris was also tackling Millennium, it was a no-brainer.  The story takes place 15 years after the show ends.  Mulder is on the review board to contest Monte Props’ release. On his way out of the penitentiary, he noticed Black signed in as a visitor.  Mulder then surprises Black at his home, while Black is reading old case files on Monte Props.  There is a twist at the end of the issue which I will not give away but you should check it out!

I was never a huge Millennium fan, but the writing of the comic does make me want to watch the show again. Millennium was a much darker show than X-Files and the comic retains that aspect while being easy to read for newcomers.  I am definitely checking out the later issues!
