Movie Review: Ark Exitus

by Matt Sernaker, Managing Editor

When doppelgängers from a parallel universe begin to invade our world, it is up to a covert agency named Structure to save the day. Can their top agent stop the latest incursion and determine their master plan once and for all? Welcome to Ark Exitus, a short film from Vox Rocket Studio and Director/Producer Johnny Yong Bosch (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie).

Ark Exitus features Johnny Yong Bosch in the lead role as Jacob, Jason Narvy (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie) as Graham, Soji Arai (Cobra Kai) as Coyote, Jennifer Almaguer (Halloween Night) as Lauren, and Naoyuki Ikeda (Hunter) as Dr. Nogi. Narvy also acted as Assistant Director/Assistant Producer on the project.

This sci-fi thriller was exciting from start to finish. While it channels a bit of Stargate and a few parallel world sci-fi tropes, it manages to offer a uniquely distinct story and does quite a bit of world / character building in a short timespan. Ark Exitus is a story by Kyle Higgins (Boom! Studios Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Brian Buccellato (Sons of the Devil), and Johnny Yong Bosch.

The cinematography was solid throughout the film, providing viewers with some eye candy and entertaining Easter Eggs. While I throughly enjoyed the story, the standout moments are the fight sequences. Both Bosch and Narvy get some fantastic moments in the final act, going all out for the big finale.

Overall
Ark Exitus was a entertaining thrill ride made by a very talented group of individuals. Bosch and Narvy played off each other perfectly in their respective roles, setting up a story that could continue in future iterations. The film is currently being offered as a limited release, with future distribution to be announced.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
